We have all encountered people that consider someone else’s success a threat to their own.
They publicly praise our accomplishments but privately condemn our achievements.?In fact, our success creates bitterness, jealously, resentment and animosity.??
I had a friend who reluctantly reviewed my first book after being nudged to at least read it and offer his feedback.?His support was literally motivated by a sense of guilt.
I noticed several months later he deleted his review assuming I wouldn’t notice.?
That’s not a friend, that’s a person who likes to circle close to the sun but can’t stand the heat long enough to enjoy the powers of abundance.
We hear the term abundance tossed around frequently, but what does it truly mean?
According to the dictionary, abundance is a large quantity of something.?That could be love, money, happiness, kindness, success, smiles, laughter, and applause for the people we truly support.
Unfortunately, we live in a world where most people believe what someone else has prevents them from getting what they deserve.?It’s a principle called scarcity.
The benefits of embracing an abundance mentality are well documented.
When we live abundantly we can work toward a rich and satisfying life without the need for social comparison.?We exude happiness and contentment, despite our circumstances.?We give generously without keeping score.?We are blessed with countless opportunities and rewarded with meaning and substance in our personal and professional lives.?We feel secure and self-confident which leads to incredible success.
You will notice on this platform there are plenty of people offering advice on what people should or shouldn't post. Passive aggressive behavior that connotes a scarcity mindset concealed in "helpful advice".
“If you want love and abundance in your life, give it away.”?~?Mark Twain
To move from a scarcity mindset to one of abundance, 9 things can help:
Power of positive thinking
If you follow my work, you know how important being positive and optimistic are to success.?Our thinking shapes our internal dialogue which orchestrates a positive discourse consistent with abundance and success.?If we contemplate thoughts of fear and scarcity, we won’t get very far.
Power of gratitude
The power of gratitude is well documented, which is why I recommend practicing it daily.?By focusing on a few things each day, we can be thankful and move in the direction of abundance and gratitude.?It’s immensely powerful.???

Power of unlimited thinking
One Harvard study discovered that people who focus too intently on one thing lose sight of other opportunities.?We limit ourselves by restricting our vision.?Open our eyes and embrace the possibilities.?An expanded mind leads to abundance.
Power of passion and purpose
The only way to cultivate our purpose and discover our passions is by working hard to develop the talent that will enhance success.?In the process we start to share our gifts and see the fruits of our efforts multiply.?That’s when purpose really starts to gain momentum.
Power of mastery
Professional success results from developing perspicacity in a particular discipline.?It’s hard to become an expert at anything without doing the work required to earn the reputation and "skills".?Concentrate on developing skills that are relevant to the world and become extraordinary at what we do.?People on this path have no time for thoughts of insufficiency or scarcity.
Power of communication
How we speak to ourselves matter and how we communicate with others leaves a lasting impression.?Many people are careless about their words and cause irreparable damage to relationships.?In addition, they conduct negative conversations with themselves that creates a narrative inconsistent with success.?Learn to communicate well and embrace the abundance that coincides with lifting other people up, including yourself.?
Power of a growth mindset
One of my favorite teachers is Carol Dweck.?She has pioneered work on the concept of a growth mindset.?People with a growth mindset embrace challenge and learn from mistakes.?They constantly improve and develop a love for learning.?We can’t practice abundance until we understand the concept of a growth mindset.
Power of seeing the good
Human beings are designed with a negativity bias.?We can’t help but see danger and perceived threats.?Changing this default mechanism takes time but we can eventually train ourselves to see the good in every situation.?People with an abundance mindset are proficient at recognizing problems and focusing on solutions.?See the good and start to gravitate in the direction of abundance.
Power of plenty
Research at Carnegie Mellon University has explored the benefits of positive affirmations.?It’s not about looking in the mirror and telling yourself how great you are.?It’s about addressing your fears and focusing on positive thoughts consistent with solving problems and alleviating stress.?Positive affirmations are a great place to expand a world where there's plenty for everyone.
“Abundance is not something we acquire. It is something we tune into.” ~ Wayne Dyer

1 年Thank you, Steve, for your always informative articles. I try to practice gratitude every day (The only thing I say is "Thank you God for giving me another day to live and the strength to actualize my dreams"). Two days ago, I bought Jen Sincero's second book "You're a badass at making money" and I'm on the same page with her that wealth doesn't mean only money, it also includes your skills and abilities which make you stand out. .

1 年Such an important topic Steve Wohlenhaus, well said ???? Living from a fear and scarcity mindset stops us from accessing our highest selves, stepping into our power, and creating a vibrant life full of joy, love, and fulfillment. It can be tough shifting this mindset, especially if we did have scarce resources and had to fight to survive and get to where we are today. But if we want to reach that next level of success in both our personal and professional lives, we must recognize that the mindset and tactics that got us where we are today my not be the ones to take you where you want to go tomorrow.?? Wishing you a great day my friend!
