ABT paper, passenger representation & certification updates

The Management Summaries for Modules 1 to 3 of our Account-Based Ticketing (ABT) working papers have long been available in our public library. This week, we are excited to announce that the first full paper – Module 1: A New Way of Ticketing – will be uploaded to our Members-Only library soon.

Developed by our ABT Working Group, this paper provides in-depth insights into ABT. It addresses key initial questions, including:

  • What is account-based ticketing?
  • What are the different implementations of ABT?
  • Why should transport operators adopt ABT?

The paper will be uploaded in the coming days in the password-protected Members-Only section of our website. If your company is a member of STA but does not yet have access, please contact us here.

Strengthening collaboration: STA & EPF workshop in Brussels

When discussing smart ticketing, industry professionals and transport operators often engage with technology providers and policymakers. However, one crucial group is often missing from the conversation: passengers.

To bridge this gap, the Smart Ticketing Alliance is hosting an exclusive half-day workshop with the European Passengers' Federation in Brussels on May 12, 2025. This session will provide STA members with valuable insights into passenger perspectives on ticketing and mobility across Europe. Discussions will focus on key challenges, best practices, and opportunities for future collaboration.

Meet us and AMCON representatives at Transport Ticketing Events in March in London. Come by at our Booth C26 or join our panel discussion on Nationwide Digital Ticketing – Achievements, Lessons Learnt, and Future Challenges on ?? March 5 | 11:00 – 11:20 AM ??Theatre 2

New Certification Category: Limited Reader Class

After a year of dedicated work, STA is proud to launch a new category in its PCD certification process: the Limited Reader Class. This new class applies to ticket vending machines, contactless card printers, and other contactless devices where inserting standard verification equipment (the ISO/IEC 10373-6 defined Reference PICC) is challenging or even impossible without altering the device’s hardware. Learn more about our certification program.

We invite organizations and professionals across the ticketing industry to join our vibrant community. STA offers three distinct membership categories designed to accommodate different organizational sizes and roles within the industry.
