Above The Fray

Growing up, I had a number of people I looked up to for inspiration, one of them was my father who managed to groom two young men with legendary ease. He did not believe in using force to get compliance or obedience, his style had always been to dialogue, to "talk sense" into us (a term we coined to describe his famous rebukes).
The other person that left quite an impression on me was my Sunday school teacher (don't have her permission to name her). She had a distinct style of getting compliance from me and the other children in her class by simply "looking" at us.
These two individuals and many other leaders I have encountered throughout my early years in school and work left quite an impression on me. They demonstrated to me what it means to be a strong and effective leader without necessarily using force, threats or abuse.
Recent happenings in our dear country has left me wondering the kind of leadership examples we are exposing our young people to.
Have we taken the pain to ponder our actions and to deeply question ourselves as to the kind of future leaders we are grooming by our words and actions?
Effective leaders rise above the fray. They do not allow themselves to be dragged into the cacophony around them, they have no time for that, their focus remains on the bigger picture, a purpose far greater than their own interest. A call far higher than the gratification of immediate needs.
