Above or Below the Line

My personal mission statement: Creating value through talent potential & learning agility
?
The long holiday weekend offered a lot of opportunity for both relaxation as well as play. While spending time at a pool, lines surfaced top of my mind. Perhaps influenced by the pool lane lines and ropes.?
As someone who is committed to learning and continuously flexing my coaching and leadership skills, I recently picked up the book, The 15 Commitments of Conscious Leadership: A New Paradigm for Sustainable Success.? There are SO many nuggets of goodness in this book!
If one is above the line, they are open, curious and committed to learning. Below indicates closed, defensive, and committed to being right.
One nugget that particularly stood out was around candor and revealing and concealing, as well as the art of conscious listening. Teams that see reality clearly are healthier and more successful; therefore, candor is of the upmost importance. A culture of “containment” not being truthful, lying, withholding, etc. are doomed for engagement and cultural issues.
?“At any moment, we are either choosing to reveal or to conceal. When we choose revealing we’re choosing trust. When we choose concealing, we’re choosing control. Trust is rooted in love and control is rooted in fear. We believe love-based organizations win over fear-based organizations.”
As you reflect on yourself, be sure to pause and check in with yourself. Are you above the line or below it? What information do you have to ensure your self-view is not distorted? When it comes to candor, what is your commitment? When you reflect on candor, are there any opportunities to enhance revealing, to lead with heart to enhance trust?
