Abhilash Tomy looks to conquer Golden Globe Race on Bayanat

When the Golden Globe Race began 5 months ago there were 16 enthusiastic entrants.

Five months later, there are only four sailors still in the race.

And at second position is Abhilash Tomy on board the Bayanat, which is a Rustler 36.

As per the rules of the Golden Globe Race, each participating yacht can only have technology that was used till 1968.

Which means no high tech equipment on board.

In a race where the participants have to circumnavigate the world that can really grueling.

The GGR is a 30,000 mile race which began on September 4, 2022 and its the ultimate test for stamina, courage and sailing prowess on the high seas.

Following the exact route traveled in the first edition of the race, sailors set off from Les Sables-d’Olonne in France and are making their way around the world via five Great Capes before returning to the starting point.?

Abhilash Tomy is sailing the UAE-flagged boat sponsored by Bayanat, an AI-powered geospatial intelligence company, and contributing to the company’s ongoing scientific work.?

This race takes sailors to the corners of the Earth that are not really visited by ships or humans, and Abhilash is collecting water samples all along the way so that Bayanat can eventually study the microplastic content in them.

The race will be complete by mid-April and the victorious journey of Abhilash on board Bayanat, is a testimony to the triumphant sporting spirit of the UAE and the entire MENA region.
