The ABCs to ESS
ESS stands for Energy Storage System, which is a combination of storage inverter (hybrid inverter) and battery.?
But random hybrid inverter and battery could not form an ESS, they must be compatible. Within each ESS is a control center (EMS - energy management system), a chip normally located inside the inverter. The chip will send signals to the inverter and the battery to let them know when to charge or discharge the battery. So the chip needs to speak a language that both inverter and battery understand - this is what we call compatibility.?
One battery tends to be compatible with multiple brands’ inverters, but we recommend ESS from the same manufacturer for 2 major reasons:?

In most scenarios, solar panels will start working in the early morning, supporting the home load directly while the surplus energy is stored in the battery. The battery usually gets fully charged at noon or early afternoon, then the surplus energy will feed into the grid and gain some income for the homeowner.??
Solar panels will stop working from dawn as the sun goes down, at which the battery will kick in and become the primary power source for the load consumption. As time goes by, the battery runs out of its energy at midnight and starts charging from the grid enjoying the super off-peak electricity rate.?

When a blackout occurs, GoodWe ESS automatically starts discharging and powering the home appliance within 10ms. Homeowners will not even notice there is a grid outage event until there is a neighbor knocks on the door and ask “You got a generator or something?”
