storytelling is a skill, so everyone says, but writing a story ain't as easy as brushing your teeth. probably that's why few only tell stories these days, everyone else is talking about themselves or things no one finds interesting.

so, how do you construct a story?

first you need to know that a story has a beginning, middle and end.

the beginning needs characters.

plural.

one could work but is harder this way.

more than two is ok too but you don't want to populate it with too many as it becomes complex and hard to follow.

and if you decided to go with one - never make it yourself.

in the middle there’s an event.

funny thing about an event - they spread like a virus, you can’t ever have just one.

an event creates another which in consequence gives birth to another and so on… like rabbits… before you know - it's a chain of events.

that's why you need the end.

because someone needs to decide when the end happens and why.

one thing about the end though, and that's the whole point of the story, the characters that enter at the beginning are changed by what happens to them in the middle.

the end.

and that's the only manual for how to write stories you'll ever need and here comes an example:

at the beginning you have two boys;

they can be brothers or not, whatever;

in the middle you have a river;

the boys may go into a river for a swim;

or if it's windy winter perhaps they go for a skate;

maybe one of them will drawn, maybe both will;

maybe none will drawn; perhaps they will find the body;

maybe they won't;

maybe there are piranha in that water or alligator;

maybe they will build the raft;

at the end two boys become a men;

or one does and one doesn't;

their characters been changed by the river and what happened there,

their relationship changed;

maybe they don't like each other anymore or perhaps they'll never be apart from that moment…

whatever you fancy;

it's your story.
