Abandon The Lies - Embrace the Chaos

What a dramatic title for a post you might think. I recently stumbled upon some interesting thoughts about a motivational secret I would like to share with you guys - and these thoughts might indeed have a dramatic impact on your life.
A few days ago, I spotted one of those fancier made Meme’s on a Facebook page of a friend of mine. It got me thinking. The picture showed a photograph of Leonardo DiCaprio starring as Jordan Belfort and a quote that read like this:
The only thing standing between you and your goal is the b*lls*it story you keep telling yourself as to why you can't achieve it.
In one of my previous posts, I talked about the power of re-framing, that you could turn almost anything around by viewing it in another light. Still not convinced that this technique can be very effective? Look closer! Unfortunately, we use the almost same mechanism to keep lying to ourselves every day. It’s called making excuses. Sadly, I myself happened to be a world champion in this sport.
I was reminded of some other quote in one of my most favorite TV shows Game of Thrones. The two characters Lord Varys (played by Conleth Hill) and Lord Balish (played by Aidan Gillen) are talking about the opportunities that could emerge once we abandon the lies and excuses we are living.
Balish: Do you know what the realm is? It's the thousand blades of Aegon's enemies, a story we agree to tell each other over and over, until we forget that it's a lie.
Varys: But what do we have left, once we abandon the lie? Chaos? A gaping pit waiting to swallow us all.
Balish: Chaos isn't a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some, are given a chance to climb. They refuse, they cling to the realm or the gods or love. Illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is.

What are the lies you keep telling yourself? There are a thousand voices in your head telling you what to do, why an excuse is justified, why it is better do something, but avoid doing something else or why it is best not to do anything at all. They are only reflections of the fears that other people try to impose on your mind. Ask yourself: What is fear, but the wrong prognosis you create about your future? It is only one possible outcome and honestly, in most of the cases, it is the least likely one to unfold. Do not fear the chaos!
These voices of yours are all story tellers that keep telling you these b*lls*it stories you have grown fond of listening to because they all give you one thing: The easy way out of something...effort, struggle, hardship. They give you comfort and order.
There should be only one story teller in your head and that’s YOU, your true self! Let me remind you: You are the director, screenwriter, visual and audio effects designer in this thing movie called “Your Life” and it is time to get rid of some of the really bad plots and scripts.
They all distract you from your true mission: Achieving your maximum potential and contributing to this great world.
Abandon the lies and embrace the chaos. Climb the ladder!
About me
Hi there, it’s really nice to be back. Still a mid-twenties guy trying to make his way through the blogosphere by sharing some of his less crazy thoughts! Hope you can enjoy it.
I guess, this posts reveals my passion for movies and TV series - many people watch them for the pure sake of enjoyment - I am convinced that does not fully appreciate the writers' and directors' intentions which in some cases might also be to actually educate or inspire people. There is some wisdom, even in fiction.
