The recent political landscape in India has witnessed a sharp exchange between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), particularly revolving around a defamation notice sent by the BJP to AAP and Delhi Minister Atishi. This notice stems from Atishi's claim that she was given an ultimatum to either join the BJP or face imminent arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
On 3 April, the BJP formally sent a defamation notice to Atishi, demanding a public apology for her statements. Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva emphasized the lack of evidence supporting Atishi's claims and labeled them as baseless allegations born out of the AAP's internal crisis. Sachdeva stated, "Atishi failed to provide evidence of who approached her, how and when. The AAP is undergoing a crisis in Delhi, which is why they are making such baseless allegations out of frustration. But we will not let her get away with this," as reported by PTI.
Atishi's allegations surfaced shortly after the ED revealed that Arvind Kejriwal had reportedly informed them about Vijay Nair, a key figure in an alleged liquor scandal, and his connection to Atishi and Saurabh. These developments have added fuel to the ongoing political tensions between the BJP and AAP.
In a separate but related incident, on 2 April, the Supreme Court granted bail to AAP's Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh in the Delhi liquor policy case. The Court criticized the investigating agency, highlighting the lack of recovered money from Singh and suggesting that allegations of him receiving a ?2 crore bribe should be examined during the trial phase.
This series of events underscores the heightened political climate in India, particularly in the capital city of Delhi, where parties are engaged in legal battles and accusations. The interaction between the BJP and AAP, as seen in the defamation notice issue and the wider context of political maneuvering, reflects the intense competition and strategies at play in Indian politics.
