AAPL Wired Workshop – What I’m Looking Forward To

The American Association of Physician Liaisons is the premier organization in North America designed to support the physician outreach function and is a great resource for those in our industry. As is nearly everything in 2020, the experience of the annual conference will be different. This year, it comes in the form of the Wired Workshop, a virtual format which begins this Wednesday, October 21st. As always, there are many different opportunities to network and to learn new information that helps liaisons and others better support their institutions. Aside, of course, from the closing keynote led by Barlow/McCarthy’s own Kriss Barlow and Susan Boydell, there are a couple of sessions in particular that I’m looking forward to.
Darren Burch leads a Wednesday breakout entitled “Do I Hate Data?” It’s so true that data can, at times, overwhelm us in its mass; however any good program must have a foundation of data. Data can facilitate proper targeting, help direct the program, and also signal the value of efforts.
I’m also looking forward to “Physician Communications: Engaging Doctors, Supporting Liaisons,” led by Eric Chang. While I strongly believe that the 1-1 communication should form the base of communication in most programs, there are also important opportunities to leverage other mechanisms, particularly in these days of COVID-19. It’s not always easy to successfully integrate other forms of communicating with key stakeholders, so it will be great to hear from an organization that is doing it well.
AAPL members receive discounts for the conference and it’s not too late to join and/or to register. I hope to connect with many professionals, virtually, there!
