Welcome to this week's edition of A-Gay-Ny Aunt.
I was asked:
I have been applying for new roles within my organisation and even though I think I have all the skills they are looking for, I am not getting anywhere. Can you help?
Hello there,
I hear your frustration. You want that promotion or change to your role so bad and feel you have done everything you can to make it to happen. Yet it feels like you are battling against the tide to get there.
I'll get straight to the point.
It isn’t happening for a reason. You are being shown that something isn’t quite right.
- Maybe it’s not the right timing.
- Maybe you don’t have all the knowledge or skills that you will actually need in the role.
- Maybe there is a key life lesson you need to learn first.
- Maybe you need to grow more (personally or professionally) to be able to deal with what will open up as a result of getting what you want.
- Maybe there is something missing in your plan.
Whatever it is, it isn't happening for a reason.
When you feel like things aren’t going the way you hoped, pause and ask yourself what is going on.
Instead of pushing, pulling and trying to force it to happen, step back.
This is an opportunity to stop, take a breath and re-evaluate what you are doing.
Ask yourself, what am I missing here?
You may be so focused on what is in front of you, that you are forgetting to look outside that, to the bigger picture. Look beyond what you have been asking for and you may see the reason why you haven't got that thing.
So, pause. Take a moment and look at the bigger picture. What is this situation trying to tell you? What are you missing?
And remember. In this precise moment, you are exactly where you are meant to be right now.
Let go of the how, the what, the when, the who. Release it all.
And let what will be, be.
If it is meant for you, it will come.
When the time is right. And when you are fully ready.
Hope that helps,
Gina x
