We are busy with lots of refinements and testing of new features and improvements.
We have recently improved colour science, which can be retrospectively applied to existing footage. There is also some work going into refinement of colour handling on set and post workflows. Colour consistency, accuracy, and range are already among the best in the industry. An advanced CFA (colour filter array) used in 9x7 combined with meticulously matched sensor optical stack result in near perfect colour separation, incredibly clean "magenta line" - an Achilles’ Heel of most digital cinema cameras, and deep, rich saturated colours at the edges of the gamut - also incredibly hard to reach by existing cameras.?
The main feature of the 3.2 Firmware release is still a secret. All I can say is that it is very significant and a lot of effort is going into it. This feature is all about what differentiates the 9x7 from other cameras and its special status as the ultimate high-resolution camera replacing large camera arrays and delivering unprecedented levels of sharpness equivalent to 6 ~ 12 camera arrays without need for stitching, weight, complexity or high price tag. Firmware 3.2 is scheduled to be released by Christmas.
In parallel there is a lot of work done to take the already industry-leading colour science to the next level - well above and beyond what any other camera can possibly achieve today. This will be the main focus of Firmware 3.3, which we expect to unveil sometime in February 2022. This release will not be just about the 9x7. Expect one of the most significant improvements in camera technology in the past decade, or two.
Exciting times.
