99 Years Later - 208 Years To Go

Given that we recently celebrated the 99th anniversary of women's right to vote (and the upcoming 2020 election), it's time we really make this happen!

As the President of the local chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners, I was interviewed about this topic - https://www.kusi.com/womens-equality-day-marks-the-anniversary-of-womens-suffrage/

NAWBO is a national organization, which promotes the growth of women owned businesses through local networking & educational events. We leverage our unified voice to advocate for the needs of women at the state and federal level, which includes topics like access to capital and government contracting opportunities.

Can you believe? 45 years ago women couldn't even get a credit card or loan in their name without a male co-signer - Equal Credit Opportunity Act of 1974

We've come a long way but we have a long way to go!

Some facts...

- According to the Gates foundation, if nothing changes in our current system we will no reach full gender parity for another 208 years.

- $28 trillion could be added to the global GDP if we achieve full gender equality by 2025, reports the McKinsey Global Institute.

Some of the top advocacy issues for NAWBO...

Workplace - we must have access to affordable health care and paid family leave. We must also address the significant leadership gaps at the C-level & board level.

Government Contracting - we must increase the allocation of federal contracts to be performed and/or fulfilled by small businesses, particularly women-owned businesses (currently only 5% of federals contracts go to women-owned business)

We need more women to use that right to get involved in their communities and legislature to continue to work towards equality!

Thank you for sharing these statistics! Very eye opening that we be more proactive to beat 200 years until equality! Wow. Thank you for inspiring so many women leaders.

So awesome to have your leadership on these issues! Just have to throw in that for women of color, Equality Day came much later and in some cases women of color still face obstacles. to voting. https://twitter.com/timesupnow/status/1166023108932694017?s=21
