9/6/24 Persévérance and the Power of Networking

I've just finished the final review of Business Networking and I'm awaiting the final files from my designer. Am I excited? You could say I'm levitating with excitement!

Why should you read it? What's different about my perspective on networking vs. what others share? Allow me to 'splain.

If you've been a subscriber for awhile, you know I have a weekly French lesson with my unendingly patient French teacher (salut, Gregoire !!).

What you might not know is how we connected.

It might surprise you to learn we connected through networking, but not in the way you might think.

The path to our current weekly Zoom sessions started in 2003 when I met an high-net worth wealth advisor. He invited me to be a part of a networking group and for three years, I went to monthly networking breakfasts.

At one of those breakfasts, I met a gentlemen who eventually introduced me to his firm (that introduction took only about 7 years...) to do some executive coaching and business development training.

For about five years, I worked with his firm and among my clients was this really awesome French guy named Gregoire. Eventually he left the firm, but stayed in touch, but not often. I've always been very vocal about my desire to learn French--really learn it--but I did more talking than learning for too long (eventually I did get my act together!).

Anyway.

A couple of years ago, we reconnected in earnest and when he heard I had been studying French on the daily, offered to help me improve with weekly conversations.

(Keep in mind he's an incredibly successful entrepreneur who works and travels constantly. I am convinced he has zero time to help me with my French, but he does it anyway. For which I am eternally grateful!)

We've been meeting almost weekly, on Zoom, ever since. And when he recently told me he could tell my speaking and comprehensive had really improved, I actually understood him. #winning

We first connected and started working together more than a decade ago. Then, several years went by with intermittent, yet authentic connections. Which led to the relationship we have today.
