946,400+ hours of wisdom

From sales, leadership and technology space so far.

Working on this personal project where I am interviewing Sales VPs (30 is my goal with 25 completed so far) mainly from business technology space. As this phase completes I want to add the last few spectacular leaders and individuals to my interview list. This overview together is to help get introduced and referred. 'Responses in (interviews completed) so far have inspired me so much. I feel a great responsibility in how to communicate the findings.'

The 11 questions I am asking are consistent (per role type), there will be a manuscript output (Aug/Sept) shared as a printed limited first edition. For those who participate they will be sent an early access copy.

Sales is a profession and it has given me so many experiences, friends, learning and a career, I love. Sales tenets have not changed but the adaptation speed, market, buyer expectation in combination with information availability, demographics and technology (inc. AI, automation etc.) means it is critical to change our think, learn and do.

Sales VP Questions include:?

  • What is your favourite effective interview question? Why?
  • What is one of the best or most worthwhile investments you’ve ever made for a sales team?
  • What will a sales team need more to succeed and sell effectively over the next 5 years??
  • What advice would you give a smart, driven individual going into a sales role today?

Professional Questions for Procurement, Sales and Guests include:?

  • What is most difficult for you in your role today??
  • What advice would you give to salespeople?

Why did you start this?

I have a business idea for sales, but is it needed? Could it be valuable, impacting and different? Is there demand?. 2023 I travelled alot which allowed for inner work in combination with catching up with great business friends and of course many experiences. One input was my reading a couple of chapters of the Mom Test (Rob Fitzpatrick) Aug ‘23 while in France and it hit a cord. I committed to invest and get multiple inputs before major product development. This included hearing from those who could be my market and what they thought and maybe to uncover what they might want. I needed the wisdom of many as a pulse of today, to help me and shape my idea into something great.?

So I refined 11 Questions with the help of a business friends, adapting a framework executed successfully by Tim Ferris (Tribe of Mentors). March I set off with the goal to interview 30 Sales VP which would give me (I hoped) a distilled wisdom, ideas and help validate my idea.?

The Output?

The ‘Manuscript’ will have three sections. First responses from 30 Sales VP. A part two of the manuscript will be a handful of responses from procurement VP and sales performers (4+). With selection three being (4+) ‘enriching contributor’ perspectives and views. I expect to spend 5-9 weeks in distillation, formatting and editing.?

As for the insights, maybe to publish or indeed wider sharing of the findings I have yet to decide on the route or indeed format to take. Expect an update on that in October 2024.?

Project is going great. With over 40 interviews complete I am now starting the write up and review of transcripts. The dates have moved out with workload becoming clearer and parallel consult projects. Insights will be phenomenal and I am very honoured by the honesty and value shared by participants.
