94% of Physicians Report Prior Authorization Problems Leading to Care Delays

The American Medical Association has recently released a survey that shows that almost ninety-four percent of physicians in the United States have reported care delays in cases associated with Prior Authorization.?

Billing experts claim that this survey is a testimony to the urgent need for upgrading the prior authorization systems and improving patient care.?

But Why Does Prior Authorization Matter So Much?

Well, normally physicians spend almost two business days each week on prior authorization requests. In addition, AMA also claimed that 35% of physicians have had to hire additional staff to exclusively handle the administrative burden that results from problems in prior authorization. This is where collaborating with a professional medical billing company could prove to be a smart decision.?

The importance of prior authorization can also be judged by the following statistics extracted from the recent AMA survey:

- 80% of physicians report that prior authorization can at least sometimes lead to treatment abandonment;

- 33% of physicians report prior authorization leading to an adverse impact on a patient in their care;

-?9% of physicians report that it led to permanent bodily damage, disability, or death.?

- 86% of physicians report that prior authorization problems lead to the higher overall utilization of healthcare resources.
