9 Reasons Why Your Fan Is Too Loud

9 Reasons Why Your Fan Is Too Loud

In the past, there was a misconception that since the human ear is less sensitive to low-frequency noise, the noise emitted by ventilation or air-conditioning equipment should not affect the comfort of life. We know now that for people who are sensitive to low frequency sounds – a low rumble -, being exposed to it, especially in the case of long-term exposure, e.g. at work, home or school, can cause not only significant annoyance and general ?displeasantness” but also be stress factor therefore leading to severe stress-related conditions like migraine headaches.

One of the reasons for the noise in the ductwork system may be an operating duct fan. Here are possible reasons why your fan is too loud:

1.     Incorrectly selected fan operating point,

2.     Incorrect assembly of the fan, e.g. some roof fans should work with the axis of rotation of the rotor vertically. Another position of work (eg oblique) can contribute to a faster wear of rotor bearings and consequently to their loud operation,

3.     No periodic maintenance of the ventilation system, which can cause dirt and other particles entering the fan,

4.     Lack of elements reducing vibration transmission between fans and ducting e.g. acoustic muffler,

5.     Unbalanced or damaged rotor,

6.     Worn or damaged bearings,

7.     Bad electrical motor power supply voltage (e.g. incorrectly selected or incorrectly set speed regulator), which may cause a characteristic "humming noise" of the electric motor,

8.     Wrong angle of impeller blades if the fan is equipped with such adjustment,

9.     No periodic maintenance of the ventilation system, which can cause dirt and other particles entering the fan.
