9 QUESTIONS YOU MUST ASK IN AN INTERVIEW

9 QUESTIONS YOU MUST ASK IN AN INTERVIEW

Have you been under the impression that in an interview, you are only to answer questions?

Let me clear that up for you…

In an interview, it is just as important for you to ask questions as it is to answer them. An interview is the highest and best form of an information meeting.

Think about it, when you’re answering questions, aren’t you revealing something about yourself? Everything you say divulges information about who you are, what you enjoy, what drives you and so on.

Now if everything you answer reveals to the interviewers who you are, don’t you think you should be asking the interviewers a few questions so you can get to know a little more about the company?

Asking questions will help you understand the four important Cs that will help you connect better with the interviewers and understand the workings of the organization you wish to join.

Some questions will help you CONNECT while some will help you understand the CULTURE of the organization. Some of these questions will inform you of the CHALLENGES that the company face and the others will help you simply CONVERSE and CLOSE the interview successfully.

(1) Can you tell me more about the every day responsibilities of this job? Ask this question to learn as much as you can about the role and decide whether or not the job is the right fit for you. Through this question, you will also learn what specific skills and strengths that you will be putting to use.

(2) What are your expectations for this role? Especially in the next 30 to 60 days? This will give you and insight into what is expected of you, should you take the job, giving you time to prepare yourself.

(3) Please tell me a little more about the culture of the organization. You must know how well you will fit into the organization, whether or not your personal values are aligned with the values of the company. It is extremely important for you to know the answer to this, especially if you wish to stay with the organization long-term.

(4) What are the biggest opportunities facing the company/department? (5) What are the biggest challenges facing the company/department? These two questions will help you create a game plan for when you do start working with the company. You will know exactly what you must do to, what awaits you, both the good and the bad.

(6) What do you like best about working with the company? When you ask your interviewer what they enjoy the most about the company, you gain further insight into the organization’s culture.

(7) As an employee, what can I do to make a difference and have an impact on the company this year? Not only will this question show your willingness to contribute to the organization but it will also show that you value clarity and are not threatened by challenges.

(8) Is there anything about my candidacy that you would change to make me a better ?t for this job? This is the ideal way to end an interview for you are letting the interviewer know that you are open to feedback and change.

(9) What are the next steps in the hiring process? Another question that will help you close the interview on a positive note.

Questions help you gain knowledge and when you ask these questions during and interview you gain clarity about the role you will be stepping into and about the company. You will also indicate to the interviewer that you are serious about the position and willing to take on the necessary responsibilities which will work in your favor.

Great questions there ... Maybe candidates should also try to get a gist of the organisation structure and the career progression in order to have a more futuristic view of how their role would span out in the next few years!
