9 November 2016--the United States Going Forward

The United States under new leadership will now go forward into its future. Many challenges face our 241-year old republic as we confront that future. That future is one that despite its challenges presents us with many opportunities that a free people who respect liberty and bring to the challenges the genius of their many forbearers are uniquely positioned to realize those opportunities. Every American is a problem solver. Every American loves liberty. Now pray that we have a leader who will bind us together and release that genius.

America is a great human experiment in republican democracy that respects and champions individual liberty and government that allows the genius of that liberty to prevail and prosper. But it is an experiment that as robust as it may be, may quickly be extinguished. If the people sacrifice their liberty cheaply for government that moves away from the founding principles and promises cradle to grave personal security in exchange for liberty, the Republic dies.

It may be from the 2016 election that the American People respect their liberty and republic enough to grant it an opportunity to continue the splendid experiment. The experiment does not and never will guarantee cradle to grave security for the individual. But it does offer the individual the greatest opportunity on the face of the earth to be all they can be.

Other peoples respect and desire individual liberty and many have championed liberty under truly difficult if not hopeless circumstances--the Polish People coming to mind. But few people under their law have been presented as unique a situation to realize that liberty than the people of the American Republic. Few governments and peoples that championed individual liberty for all of their citizens have prevailed for an extended time. And by circumstance of cataclysmic geopolitical upheavals of the preceding century a people were placed in a role to champion individual liberty on our planet--a role the American Republic did not aspire to and in many ways has been reluctant to maintain. In fact, the ideal is the flowering of individual liberty under the rule of law among all peoples on their own cultural and societal terms.

But, liberty does need a viable champion--a difficult role at best. Perhaps with this election, the American people are again being presented with an opportunity to pursue the dream of individual liberty--perhaps the Republic will resume its role as a champion of individual liberty under rule of law with fellow champions in our world.

Tom....Congratulations on your new President. As Mr. Trump pointed out in his speech early Nov 9th, it is time for unity and all Americans to work together. The times of divisive rhetoric is over. You are a great Nation and you will succeed.

I am sorry to disagree. Sad day for America, and what America once stood for. Huge step back.
