This is not the market to have a?meh, outdated resume. A well-crafted resume can help you control the narrative and target the "story" you want to tell during the interview process. If fixing up your resume seems overwhelming and you don’t know where to start, I can help. Email me at [email protected]?with questions.?Happy to hop on a call to discuss further.
1.????You included your address
Obviously, hiring managers want to get to know potential candidates. However, the chances of them coming to your house to speak with you are slim to none. If you’re looking at a local position, it’s appropriate to include your city and state so the employer knows you’re a local. But I’d leave off the street address.?
2.????You have an objective or statement of purpose
If you applied for a job, the employer knows your objective is to interview for the position and receive an offer. Don’t include this.
3.????Your formatting is weird and inconsistent
Your resume should be tailored for the position you are applying for. A pop of color with a fancy font is a hard NO. Keep it boring.
4.????You’re still relying on your education to get you in the door
Unless you are a recent grad, your professional experience is more important than your education. While including any relevant and important degrees may still be needed to show you meet the job requirements, it should?not?be at the top of your resume.
5.????Your titles are too vague
Be more detailed. Add the division, title and the group. Sub-sector experience is useful as well. I don't care if you had to take a year back and have been a VP for 5 years, leaving off your title is always a red flag.

6.????Your resume hard to read
In your zeal to fit your resume on 1-page you have shrunk the font and changed the margins. Resumes that are hard to read are a hard pass. 10-point font the smallest you can go.
7.????You don’t show your value by highlighting what you’ve achieved
Your resume should show the reader what you bring to the table, why you will be an asset to the company. This can only be done by highlighting your successes. Numbers and percentages are excellent ways to show what you’ve achieved. Select transactions can showcase your deal experience and highlight how you helped carry the deal across the finish line.
8.????Your resume is too long
As you progress in your career, your resume will get longer. But too much information can overwhelm readers and make your resume seem outdated. 2-pages max.
9.????You included personal references.
When the time comes, an employer will ask for your references. Show respect for your colleagues’ time and privacy by protecting their contact information until you reach that point.
