9 Ideas for Easter in Your Ward

9 Ideas for Easter in Your Ward

This past Monday we had an engaging live stream in the Leading Saints Community.

We gathered leaders from around the United States and shared ideas for how our local wards can effectively contribute to the # GreaterLove campaign the Church is launching this Easter season.

Here’s a quick list of some top ideas we are beginning to share as a Leading Saints community.

1. Make sure your ward members are familiar with Easter.ChurchofJesusChrist.org

2. Use the 5th Sunday in March to create some momentum in your ward around the Easter Season and the # GreaterLove campaign

  • Use this time to practice some Easter-related hymns
  • Facilitate a conversation about Easter traditions beyond chocolate eggs and bunnies. This will help create a more prominent feeling of Easter season rather than a one-day celebration

3. Create an Easter Advent (examples are in the works)

4. Consider various days the week before Easter to hold activities, including Palm Sunday

  • Palm Sunday can be a great way to kick off the week and orient people towards Easter celebrations
  • Create a wall of paper palm fronds with members’ written testimonies about “greater love”
  • Host a musical experience with all wards participating, inviting friends and community members

5. Stake Palm Sunday Musical Fireside

  • Each ward contributes a musical number
  • Include short speaker segments between songs

6. Christ Room

  • Transform the Relief Society room (or various rooms in the church) into a Christ-themed space that highlights the life of Christ
  • Make this available throughout the week for community members to stop in for a self-guided tour

7. “My Jesus” Exhibit

  • This is in reference to 2 Nephi 33:6, I glory in plainness; I glory in truth; I glory in my Jesus, for he hath redeemed my soul from hell.
  • Invite members to bring paintings, photos, or other depictions of Christ from their homes
  • Display these in church lobbies, foyers, hallways, and Relief Society room
  • Use easels, tables, and creative setups to showcase the artwork
  • Consider adding explanatory notes about why each piece is meaningful to the member
  • This is open to the community and possibly features images from other Christians in the community

8. Attend Other Church Services

  • Many Christian churches will have a Good Friday service or other activities the week before Easter.
  • Invite your ward to join these services so the community gathers to worship Jesus Christ.

9. Help Members Have Home-centered Celebrations

We need to hear your ideas as well!

Join us for our next # GreaterLove Live Stream next week.

Sincerely,

Kurt Francom, Executive Director, Leading Saints
