9 Habits to have effective online meetings during COVID-19

1. Don't set up a meeting just because you are free. Remember it's not about setting up a meeting, instead it's about the objective of the meeting.
2. Do not agree to meetings with no clear agenda or end time. Ask for it in advance for preparation.
3. Do not let people ramble. Always get to the point. It's a disaster to have open-end discussions, people don't realize the time lost especially when working from home. If it was from the office, we always check on the time to see when to exit the office which we don't while working from home.
4. Ask the host of the meeting to email the agenda. Ask the meeting host to send the agenda via email before the meeting.
5. Clarify the outcome. Clearly mention the expected outcome of the meeting based on the agenda so everyone knows what to be taken home.
6. Minute the meeting. Ask the meeting minutes to be emailed to all the attendees or send it to Slack, if your team is on Slack workspace.
7. Do not use your phone. Use your desktop/laptop for the meeting and avoid cellphones to stay away from continuous distractions.
8. Assign tasks while in the meeting. Agree between the team what are the assigned task and agree on the deadlines right there & then.
9. Record the meetings. Record the meeting session and share it between the team members so they don't have to ask/discuss what was already discussed.
