#9 Finally, I Am DONE! So, What’s Next After The Interview?

Interviewing for your dream job could be a nerve-wracking process. You might be more than a bit prepared to stop thinking about it after the interview is done. Even so, that would be a big mistake.

You will find several things you need to consider after a job interview, which could help you land your dream job.

Write Down How You Feel About The Interview

Jot down everything you could recall as soon as you get out of the meeting room. No, it is not an artistic writing exercise. The purpose of doing this is to acknowledge that humans are bizarre and faulty.

Your sentiments about how stuff went could vary from one day to another. More essentially, you might not recall all the information. Not to mention that details could be extremely practical and helpful, particularly if you like to send a comprehensive, relevant follow-up email.

Write down the names of the individuals you met with, their corresponding job titles, the things you have discussed, and anything that might look relevant after you left the interview room.

You can also write down any questions you might still have in your mind.

Send A Fantastic Thank You Email

Did you know that fifty-six percent of employers said that not getting a thank-you note means a candidate was not serious about the job role?

Twenty-two percent of employers claimed that they would be less likely to employ someone who does not send a thank-you note after an interview.

You like to take this chance to be different from the rest. Utilize the notes you have written after the interview to craft modified thank-you emails to the individuals you met throughout your visit.

Ensure you mention the things you talked about during that day. Stay away from committing any grammatical mistakes in this email. That is a very important tip. After all, you do not like to lose the job as you unintentionally spelled something wrong. Check the spelling and grammar first before you deliver the email.

Send Invites To Connect on LinkedIn

Understandably, you are stressed after your job interview. Nonetheless, that does not offer you the right to pester the employer. It’s recommended to send a LinkedIn connection request a few days after you send your thank-you email.

Take note that your message should be three-hundred characters or less. Thus, it must briefly and exactly show your gratitude for the time of the interviewer as well as your interest in the job.

For instance, say:

It was a great pleasure meeting you and understanding more about your roles at [Company] and the [job] position.

I am truly fascinated by joining your team. Please feel free to get in touch, should you have any queries. I would like to add you to my LinkedIn network in the meantime.

Best,

Pace Your Follow Up with The Recruiters & Hiring Managers

If you worked along with a hiring manager or recruiter, ask them to follow up along with your interviewer that day for any feedback.

A recruiter is at the mercy of the company after the first interview. Send a short email every week after the interview to remind them to follow up. This will put yourself back in the mind of the organization.

Take note – ONCE A WEEK ONLY. Following up twice or more is not necessary.

Do not be afraid to ask the recruiter or hiring manager about the things you must expect as far as the time frame and next steps. It suggests that you are keeping up with the process and that you are truly interested in the role.

After all, the function of the hiring manager is to be an intermediate between the employer and the applicant. The recruiter’s role is to answer questions from the applicant about the company as well as from the company about the applicant.

Further, recruiters field many applicants and emails from eager candidates each month. Don’t put them on the spot through a call. This simply indicates you might not get the answer you are seeking. Remember that they might not know what position you like to get an update on anyway due to the number of open jobs they juggle at a particular time.

Always go for an email as an alternative. The majority of hiring managers and recruiters are organized digitally. They will know the particulars of the job role you applied for and your application fast and much effortlessly through email.

Ask For Feedback On The Interview Done

You will find many good things, which come from this stage. That’s true, especially if you do not land your dream job. When you are turned down for a job, you will be often notified through email or phone. Seize that chance if that happens to you.

Thank the company for taking the time to get in touch with you. You can then ask for more info about the reason why you were not chosen. You can tell them that you would want to learn from that process and that any form of feedback would be valued.

That will not simply reiterate your professionalism, but you will likely learn something that might help you next time.

As mentioned already, it’s always a wonderful idea to be grateful and thank the interviewers for their consideration and time, especially if you do not get the job. Business Insider reported that sending a ‘thank you’ mail is always a good idea to follow up after you hear you did not get the role.

To avoid this from happening again, make sure you redo the job search and do not give up.

Hey, thanks for reading this post up to this sentence. Now, I know you're probably wondering, "Why do you post this article?"

Well, I first started my career journey as a headhunter and the reason why I jumped into recruitment is that I didn't know what I want back then. I thought the best thing to do is to interview thousands of people, understanding their roles and industries. With this exposure, I was able to understand the mind of the recruiters, hiring managers, and years later had the privilege to be in various roles with top global companies.

I am forever grateful to all the people that came into my life and showed me that I have what it takes to pursue my goals. Today, I am on a mission to help driven & ambitious people to get in front of global leaders & world-changing companies.

If you think you have benefited from this sharing, I hope you can pay it forward by sharing this article and connect with me to always inspire each other. Stay tuned for more brewing on #rioslab. God bless!
