These days, disruption is the M.O. in the world of work, but you have an opportunity to influence how you and your organization embrace and even initiate disruption. Every year I publish my list of trends that impact personal branding, career success and talent development. For 2020 and beyond, there are nine key trends that will significantly affect your success as a career-minded professional and the success of your people if you’re an HR or talent development professional.
In this series of nine LinkedIn articles, I’ll take a deep dive into each of the nine trends—one per article.
In this installment, we’ll take a look at Trend #4. Brandscaping?
Queer Eye for the Straight Guy gave us manscaping. Now, prepare yourself for brandscaping.
It’s a noisy world out there, and it’s only getting noisier. The endless flood of information and digital content has created the need for brandscaping. To be heard, you need steadfast clarity and focus, especially when communicating about the corporate brand. You’ll get lost in the clamor if your message isn’t clear, consistent, and constant (the three Cs of strong brands).
Brandscaping means excising the extraneous stuff that distracts, detracts, or disorients. It means making sure that you come across as pristine, potent, and powerful. Effective personal branding means identifying the one thing for which you want to be known. When you are singing the same note all the time, you can stand out from the noise and be recognized and remembered.
If you’re in HR or talent development, help your people uncover their authentic personal brand—what they want to be known for, not what the company wants to be known for. The brand discovery process helps them become confident in who they are and gives them permission to integrate their greatest gifts into the work they do for you.
Stay tuned to this series for articles on all nine trends. They are:
1. Nexting?
9. YOUcasting?
