8urnout to 8usiness

I don't even know how she found me - social media headhunting I guess. Her course was cheaper than her competition, so I solicited her as my business coach. I hadn't been in the coaching sphere for very long. She suddenly popped up on my feed, seemed to have good advice, a course I needed, the guidance I was looking for: Somebody to hold my hand and show me how to get started with my business. I really wanted to be successful already. I really wanted somebody to help undo my knots, and "fix me". So I paid her $4k to be my business coach. A year before I launched.

Her material wasn't bad at all. Neither was her course. I didn't love how she showed up, usually from bed, hair a mess. Her coaching was pushy and heavy on the Actions instead of the Why. I truly thought "this was a waste of money". I thought she was the reason I hated the course.

I didn't realize until much later: The reason I hated the course was because of how I thought about it.

The reason it was a waste of money was because I didn't engage with it. And I didn't engage with it because of how I thought about it. I made "waste of money" true for myself. The reason it was a waste of money was because I hired her out of desparation - out of "I need help".

This is how not to spend your money: Out of desparation or hopes that whatever you're spending your money on will fix you. Because the money spent will be an attempt to solve for a feeling you're only having because of a way you're thinking about your situation. No system in the world can solve for your feelings.
