8th Kampala Geopolitics Conference Scheduled for April 2025
The 8th edition of the Kampala Geopolitics Conference (KGC) is set to take place on April 9 and 10, 2025, at the esteemed Makerere University. This two-day academic event, inspired by France's "Geopolitics of Nantes," aims to delve into current geopolitical questions and trends, offering an interactive platform for dialogue on contemporary regional and international affairs.
A partnership agreement was signed on Thursday between the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS), the Embassy of France in Uganda, Makerere University, and Alliance Fran?aise Kampala, reaffirming their commitment to organizing this significant event. French Ambassador to Uganda, H.E. Xavier Sticker, emphasized the conference's role in bringing African perspectives to global debates. He highlighted the importance of addressing critical issues such as the opportunities and challenges presented by Artificial Intelligence and its role in misinformation.
This year's conference will cover a range of topics, including international relations, regional security, and peacebuilding. Cultural activities like visual art, dance, and music performances focusing on peace, security, gender, and cultural identity will also be featured. Professor Mukadasi Buyinza, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic Affairs) at Makerere University, noted the conference's impact on Uganda's intellectual landscape, stating that the past seven editions have strengthened dialogue across boundaries.
Nils Wormer, Director of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Regional Programme Security Dialogue for East Africa, expressed the organization's dedication to promoting democratic dialogue and evidence-based policy discussions. He highlighted the importance of each institution's unique capabilities and networks in contributing to the conference's success.
