8MP: Model for the Common Core's 8 Mathematical Practices
Common Core
From the website: "Today’s students are preparing to enter a world in which colleges and businesses are demanding more than ever before. To ensure all students are ready for success after high school, the Common Core State Standards establish clear, consistent guidelines for what every student should know and be able to do in math and English language arts from kindergarten through 12th grade."
8 Mathematical Practices
From the website: "The Standards for Mathematical Practice describe varieties of expertise that mathematics educators at all levels should seek to develop in their students. These practices rest on important “processes and proficiencies” with longstanding importance in mathematics education."
8MP Model
I developed this model based on conversations with Subject Matter Experts in K12 Math. My design goals were:
- show the relative important of each practice
- show the relationship of the practices to each other
- create a diagnostic tool to identify a student's strengths & weaknesses
