83 MW Temporary Gas Power Plant for Stable, Independent Energy in Kazakhstan

The challenge was to secure a reliable and uninterrupted power source for the customer, as the existing grid was unable to meet the high demand in an industrial area crowded with numerous industries and companies. The region faced a significant power deficit, with the grid struggling to supply sufficient energy to meet the diverse needs of various businesses.

This created frequent disruptions and instability in the power supply, which was critical for the customer's operations. Recognizing the limitations of relying on an overloaded grid, the customer began exploring alternative solutions to ensure a stable energy source that could consistently meet their power requirements without interruption.

Altaaqa devised a solution by leveraging the region's abundant gas supply. The customer sourced a gas provider and secured an agreement to supply a specific quantity of gas. Altaaqa brought in a mobile power plant, installed it, and established a self-sustaining, autonomous (or "island mode") power generation facility.

The power plant was deployed in stages over several months, starting with an initial capacity of 6 MW and subsequently adding 6 MW, 12 MW, and finally three more stages of 14 MW, 12 MW, and 12 MW, respectively. The installation process began in August 2020, with full operations starting in February 2022.

The customer also operates a mining farm connected to the grid in another region. Unfortunately, due to tariffs and the grid's inability to supply adequate power during the day, they had to cut its capacity by 60%, limiting operations to just 40% capacity during night time hours. This limited operation makes it challenging to meet production goals and hinders growth.

In contrast, our service provides a consistent and uninterrupted 24/7 power supply, allowing the customer to maintain full operational capacity at all times. With our solution, they are no longer constrained by grid limitations or fluctuating tariffs, enabling them to run their operations efficiently and productively around the clock. This stable power source has empowered the customer to focus on optimizing their mining operations without worrying about downtime or capacity limitations.
