82-Year-Old Granny Passes Her Driving Test

An 82-year-old granny from Wexford passed her driving test.

She had tried and failed numerous times before.

The media love this kind of story (great PR for the driving instructor too).

The thing that impressed me about this story was this woman’s persistence.

She had tried many times before and failed but she kept going.

In my humble opinion, persistence is the single most important quality we must have to succeed in business.

I’m sure people might be thinking, ‘What about selling, marketing, etc.?’

All those skills are important but they alone are useless without persistence.

Why are persistence and determination so important?

Unfortunately, in business the odds are stacked against us.

Most businesses won’t succeed. The stats are frightening – I won’t even go into them.

Most things we try in business don’t work. That’s nobody’s fault, it’s just the way it is.

Look back at marketing campaigns you tried before and see how many worked.

I would guess for every ten things we try in business, maybe only two will work. Which is exactly why persistence is so very important.

If we keep trying, learn from our experience and try again, we are bound to be successful. I’m sure you have heard this definition of insanity before: ‘Doing the same thing over again and hoping for a different result.’

We must learn when things don’t work and adjust our approach. Too many people quit and give up trying. Thomas Edison had over 10,000 attempts to invent the electric lightbulb before he eventually succeeded. He was quoted as saying, ‘I ran out of ways that would not work.’

And I think business is the same. If we keep trying, tweaking our approach, learning and applying our new knowledge, we will have to succeed.

??In my humble opinion, persistence is the most important quality to have in business. It does not matter how many time you fail. If you learn from each experience and keep trying, you will succeed – guaranteed.
