The week under review – November 6 – 12, 2023, witnessed 81 Banditry, cultism, gunmen and terrorism-related killings and an unspecified number of abductions in eighteen states. The deaths and abductions were a result of twenty incidents spread across all of Nigeria’s six regions.
States with the highest number of casualty figures include; Sokoto, 11 deaths; Benu – 10 deaths, Rivers – 7, Zamfara – 7; and Kogi – 5 deaths. In Borno and Yobe States, the Nigerian Air Force also killed 22 members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).
The incidents occurred at a time when the national government said there was no cause for alarm over a recent travel warning issued by the United States, urging its citizens to reconsider travel to Nigeria due to security concerns.
Nigeria has seen a dramatic spike in banditry and terrorists related deaths in recent months after initial military successes against non-state actors. The north-central and north-west continue to defy both kinetic and non-kinetic military approaches as killings and abductions fester rapidly.
Gunmen have shot dead five persons in Odiemerenyi community, Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The hoodlums are suspected to be members of a cult gang terrorizing the area.
The victims include Ogbobula Ejee, Eeje Idaokwa, Chigbogu, Idaokwa, and others who are yet to be identified.
The police in a statement by its Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, also stated that two of the cultists were killed by its personnel.
Gunmen kill Oyo motorcyclist Nov 12, 2023
A commercial motorcyclist has been reportedly killed by yet-to-be-identified gunmen suspected to be armed robbers in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The incident occurred Sunday night at Olorunda Aba town in Lagelu Local Government Area of the state.
An eyewitness who does not want his name mentioned told The PUNCH? that the motorcyclist was conveying his assailants to an unknown destination before he was attacked and killed.
The PRO of the varsity, Mr Effiong Eyo, also confirmed the incident, adding rescue efforts are ongoing.
Cult Clash: Three Dead, Others Arrested In Ogun Nov 12, 2023
Three persons have been killed with three others arrested in the Sagamu area of Ogun State, police authorities said on Monday.
The Ogun State Police Command disclosed this in a statement, saying the victims died after rival cults clashed in the Agbowa area of Sagamu.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Omolola Odutola, stated that some suspects had been arrested in connection with the incident.
One killed in Bayelsa Nov 12, 2023
A man identified as George Sibo reportedly died Sunday afternoon in Twon-Brass, headquarters of the Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State after he was allegedly attacked by a mob.
It was learnt that the deceased was attacked at the governorship election collation centre at the council area headquarters when results from some wards in Constituency 2 were being submitted.
A member of the state House of Assembly representing Brass Constituency 1, Daniel Charles, condemned the killing.
Police confirm kidnap of UNICAL director Nov 12, 2023
The police in Cross River State have confirmed the abduction of the Director of Servicom at the University of Calabar, Prof Patrick Egaga.
Egaga was abducted by gunmen on Sunday night from his residence at the university staff quarters.
The Public Relations Officer of the State Police Command, SP Irene Ugbo, who confirmed the incident on Monday said, “We are working to secure his release.”
Rivers police kill two suspected cultists Nov 12, 2023
The Rivers State Police Command said its operatives have killed two of the suspected cultists who killed five natives of the Odiemerenyi community in Ahoada East Local Government Area on Sunday morning.
The command noted that the cultists are gang members of a wanted kingpin, David Gift, aka 2-Baba who allegedly butchered the Divisional Police Officer of Ahoada,? SP Bako Angbanshin, in September 2023.
No fewer than seven civilians have been killed and many kidnapped by a group of armed terrorists in Gada village of Bungudu local government area of Zamfara state.
Resident of the area in a telephone interview with Blueprint reporter said the bandits attacked the community at around 6pm on Saturday.
Suspected hoodlums have killed a ward chairman of Young Progressives Party (YYP) in Anambra State.
The ward chairman whose name was given as Mr. Joe Mohale of Nanka Ward 1 in Orumba North Local Government Area was killed on Saturday evening, shortly after a ward meeting, where he hosted the member representing Orumba North and South Federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Chinwe Nnabuife.
Meanwhile, the YPP has gone into morning following the killing of its member. Nnabuife who assumed leadership of the party in the South East after the defection of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah said the party in the South east has been thrown into mourning because of the incident.

Daredevil terrorists have attacked another Maulud procession in Katsina State, killing one person and injuring many others.
The incident, which occurred yesterday early morning at Zagami village in Faskari Local Council of the state, also saw several people abducted by the terrorists.

Gunmen kill Kwara pastor’s wife, abduct two Nov 11, 2023
Unknown gunmen have reportedly killed the wife of a Pastor of the Evangelical Church Winning All popularly called ECWA church in Agbeku community in the Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State identified as Mrs Olawale.
One other person was reportedly shot during the operation on Saturday.
Although the command is yet to appoint a spokesperson following the retirement of Ajayi Okasanmi, a senior officer who confided in our correspondent confirmed the incident.

Security Operatives Kill 3 ‘Kidnappers’ In Kebbi Nov 9, 2023
Members of the vigilante group at Ngaski Local Government Area of Kebbi State on Thursday killed three suspected kidnappers.
The suspected kidnappers were said to have been terrorizing the area for years before they were apprehended and killed sequel to the arrest of their informants who took members of the vigilante group to their hideouts in the forest.
During briefing journalists on the development on Friday, the Director of Security, Cabinet Office in Birnin Kebbi, AbdulRahman Usman said, “Following the intelligence information which led to the arrest of the bandits’ informant, he agreed to take members of the vigilante group to where they were hiding in the forest. They were killed during an exchange of gunfire with the vigilante members.”

The Taraba State Command of the Nigerian Police Force has confirmed the death of Bassy Sardauna, a secondary school teacher killed by students on Wednesday in Jalingo.
Confirming the incident on Thursday, the command’s spokesperson, Abdullahi Usman, said the deceased was a staff of Model Secondary School, Jalingo.
