8 WAYS TO IMPROVE YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA PRESENCE

What does your social media presence say about you? Is it helping or hurting your business? Because, depending on how you are using it, it can do either.

The key to having a successful social media presence is all in the planning and strategy. And it takes work! A lot of work!

HOW TO FIGURE OUT THE RIGHT STRATEGY

The first step is to make the decision to get your social media presence on the right track. If you have decided it’s time to figure out more of a strategy, then you’ve come to the right place! So where to start? Let’s dive into 8 different tips that you can implement immediately to improve your social media now!

Tip One:

  • Stay on top of trends - Social media is always changing and evolving, and in order to stay relevant, you need to do the same. I get it, staying up to date with all the changes these platforms make on a monthly basis can be a LOT of work. In March, Instagram alone had over thirty updates. Knowing what these trends are will help you.

Tip Two:

  • Explore different types of media - What works on one platform may not be as effective on another. You may have to change the type of media you are using or tweak your message depending on the audience that uses each platform.

Tip Three:

  • Stay active - Engage, respond to DMs and comments, and comment on other accounts. Keep the conversations going! Social media was originally built around conversations and not content creation. You’d be surprised how effective being “social” on these platforms will be for your business. I do have a free ebook all about how to engage effectively on social media, so be sure to check it out.

Tip Four:

  • Provide customer service - These are your customers, after all, so make sure you are talking directly to them, providing what they are looking for, and listening to them. Good customer service, and letting your people know they are being heard will keep them coming back.

Tip Five:

  • Look at your results - Looking at analytics and making adjustments accordingly is going to help you know what is and what is not working. Use tools that will help you look at your data like Flick. That way you are maximizing your efforts on social media. Platforms like Facebook and Instagram will give you full data and analytics of your followers for free within the app.?

Tip Six:

  • Network and interact - Converse with your audience, and listen to what they are saying. Engage with other accounts, comment, and make sure you are responding to those who are engaging and commenting on your posts.

Tip Seven:

  • Promote - You need to make yourself known in order for people to find you. So promote your accounts in order to gain more reach. You can do this through cross-promotion and collaboration with others, podcasts, and even paid advertising.

Tip Eight:

  • Use tools to your advantage - It can be hard to stay on top of your social media game, but luckily there are more tools becoming readily available to help take over some of the more tedious tasks. Two of my favorite scheduling tools are Loomly and Flick. Flick is a great tool if you want to schedule AND conduct hashtag research.?

DON’T HAVE THE TIME?

This is one of the most common complaints I hear when I speak with people about social media. “I just don’t have the time!” Look, if you are not doing all of the above currently, it’s time to start! And guess what? Staying on top of all this can actually be pretty easy once you start a routine. Trust me, I know, it seems like A LOT.? Once you have a strategy in place, you will be able to allocate your social media time productively. No more spaghetti at the wall methods and I am telling you, the benefits are huge. After all, your social media is the gateway into what your business is all about. It’s oftentimes the first place your customers get to know you. It’s where you build the know-like-trust factor around your business. And create a community of your biggest brand advocates.? If they are immediately turned off, it’s difficult to win those folks back. So trust me, you don’t want to ignore these tips.

Don’t have time to tackle all of this? I hear you! Maybe it’s time you thought about outsourcing your social media. In fact, hiring someone to stay on top of your social media presence and strategy can be a huge benefit to your business. By using someone who is an expert in the field, they can tweak your strategy as needed upping your level of success, and really help free you up to focus on other important tasks and your business as a whole. A lot of these items above need to happen on a daily basis and that can get overwhelming. If you currently have an admin or are outsourcing your social media, these are eight things that the person handling your social media should be doing. So be sure to ask them about it.
