8 Ways to Achieve a Positive Mindset for Personal and Career Success

8 Ways to Achieve a Positive Mindset for Personal and Career Success

Have you ever been in a situation where you just couldn't get out of your own head? Maybe it was when you were getting ready for a big opportunity and everything that could go wrong kept running through your mind. Or maybe it was when you were in the middle of an important presentation, and every single thing went wrong.

What if I told you that not only is it possible to overcome these negative thought patterns, but it's also possible to completely transform your life by changing your mindset?

You're not alone. We all have our moments where we feel a little bit overwhelmed, and there's nothing we can do to stop it. But if you've ever experienced this feeling, you probably noticed that it doesn't last forever—and that's because you have the power to change how you think about your situation so that it becomes manageable again.

I've been there. When I started my real estate brokerage, and then my own company, Virtudesk, I didn’t know everything. I made a lot of mistakes along the way because I wasn’t experienced yet in growing a business. However, I had to keep doing, despite making a lot of mistakes. It’s easy to get in your head when you don’t know what you’re doing. So, at the time, I had to (and still have to) embrace those mistakes to stay happy on the journey and come out successful, to where I am now. You can’t get stuck in analysis paralysis or believe you’re not good enough.?

As much as we all want to avoid this kind of mindset paralysis, sometimes it takes something drastic to snap us back into action—and that's where this blog will start…

Why Do We Have Negative Mindsets?

First, we need to learn why we have negative mindsets. You know how sometimes, you'll be having a great day, and then someone will say or do something negative to you, and suddenly your whole day is ruined?

It's not just an exaggeration—the negativity bias does exist. Research shows that our brains evolved to react much more strongly to negative experiences than positive ones. And that's fine—your brain had to evolve this way so you could survive in your environment. But these days, it's not helping us anymore. It can get in the way of living our best lives and achieving our goals.

A negative mindset can prevent you from achieving your goals, and it can also make it difficult for you to enjoy your life.?

So if you're not making an effort to cultivate a positive mindset for your personal and career success, then you’re missing out! Here are eight ways to get you started.

1. Have a Goal, and Make It Your Focus

Setting goals is the cornerstone of a positive mindset. They're what allows you to see the bigger picture, and they get you motivated and excited about what's coming next.

But how do you know what your goals are? And how do you keep them at the forefront of your mind so that you can continue working towards them? It's important to remember that a goal doesn't have to be huge or dramatic—it just needs to be something that matters enough for you to make it a priority.?

To start, identify a few things that matter most to you in your business or career. Once you've got those down, think about how each one affects other parts of your life. Once you have those areas in mind, start making lists of specific steps that will help move things forward.?

Once you've created a list, take some time every day or week and think about them—what steps do I need to take today or this week to get closer? Write down how far you've come toward your goals and what steps you need to take next.

2. Think Positive Thoughts

This can be difficult at first, but when we focus on positive thoughts, we start to believe them ourselves. And once we believe them, they become true. So instead of thinking about all the things that could go wrong, start thinking about all the ways things will go right—and then they will!

Make a habit of positive self-talk. When you begin to feel anxious or worried, take a moment to think about what you're saying to yourself. Are you reassuring yourself that everything will be okay or are you telling yourself that things aren't going well? Try using more positive words when talking about your situation instead of negative ones like "failure" or "loser.”

We all have good days and bad days, but what you say about them can make a big difference in how they affect you. If you wake up feeling tired and stressed, that's okay! But instead of thinking "I'm so tired and stressed" try saying something like "I feel tired today, but I'm going to go get some coffee and then go for a run." It's not just what we say – it's how we say it. Try using positive self-talk as much as possible.?

"Positive self-talk makes us more confident in ourselves, which helps us achieve our goals."

3. Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff

We all have to deal with the "small stuff" in our lives. It's just part of life. In the business world, it's easy to get caught up in the grind. Every day, you're faced with new challenges, and it can be hard not to feel like you're just one step behind everyone else. Sometimes, it can feel overwhelming and make us want to just give up.?

But what if I told you that the small stuff is actually not that bad? In fact, it can be pretty helpful!

This is something that I always tell myself when I'm feeling overwhelmed by something that seems insignificant (or even major) in my life. When we're stressed out or anxious about something, we tend to think about it over and over again—and then our minds go even more haywire. Instead, try thinking about something else for a little while so you can calm down before tackling your issue again – may it be about your business, your career, or even your relationships.?

The truth is that no matter how hard we try, there are going to be times when we feel like everything is going wrong. But if we can learn how to see past our own experiences and look at other people's experiences instead, we'll see that in most cases, things aren't as bad as they seem.?

4. Surround Yourself with Optimistic People

It turns out that optimism and pessimism are contagious—and we don't mean in a "get well soon" kind of way. If you're surrounded by optimists, you'll find yourself feeling more optimistic about your future and your ability to achieve your goals. But if you're surrounded by pessimists, your outlook on life will be colored accordingly. So if you want to cultivate an optimistic mindset for personal and career success (which is so important), then surround yourself with people who inspire optimism in others!

How can you tell if someone is pessimistic or optimistic? According to psychologists who study this phenomenon, here are some signs to look for:

1. Optimists tend to be more energetic than pessimists. They also tend to have a greater sense of purpose in life.

2. Optimists tend to see things as good rather than bad; they notice the good things in their lives more often than the bad.?

3. Optimists tend to think about happy memories more often than pessimists do; when asked about their pasts, optimists will likely talk about fun experiences like traveling or meeting friends while pessimists may focus on negative events such as divorce or illness (or even death).

So if you want to be successful in your personal life and career goals, don't just surround yourself with people who share those goals—make sure they're positive thinkers!

5. Avoid the “What If” Mindset

One of the best ways to keep a positive mindset is by avoiding what I like to call the "What if” mindset.?

“What if?” It's a question we ask ourselves all the time, isn't it??

When you’re trying to make a positive vibe in your business, “what if” will kill it. If you think about all the things that can go wrong, it will lead you down a bad road. You have to be optimistic that your hard work is going to pay off at some point instead of thinking about “what if” scenarios.?

The truth is that when you focus on "what ifs," you're not actually solving anything. When you focus on solutions instead of problems, you’ll start to see a lot of change in your business’ success.?

6. Choose to Reframe Your Challenges

Reframing can be a powerful tool because it allows us to focus on the solution instead of dwelling on the problem.?

Instead of seeing challenges as something that will stop you from achieving your goals, try looking at them as chances for growth and development. The more you put yourself out there and try new things, the more experiences you’ll have under your belt, which means more skills gained.

When I started Virtudesk, I encountered a lot of problems, including how to recruit employees, build a team, recruit virtual assistants in the Philippines for the service I was offering, and much more. You have to tackle it as a challenge you’ll learn from, and go from there.

7. Be Thankful for What You Have

When you're feeling down, it can be hard to think about what's going right and if you're struggling with self-esteem or career success, it's important to remember that there are many positive things in your life for which you should be thankful!

Consider all of the positive parts of your life, including your business, career, family, friends, and so on. There will always be moments when life doesn't go as planned or when something goes wrong (and they will), but remembering the positive side of it all will help you stay grounded during those trying times.

Take a moment today to consider everything. Whatever it is, take a moment to reflect on how significant those wonderful experiences have been in your life. This simple gesture has helped me develop a positive outlook on life, which has benefited me in achieving my current level of personal and professional success.

8. Don’t Compare Yourself to Others

As a human being, you are unique. You have your own set of strengths and weaknesses that make you who you are. It's easy to fall into the trap of comparing yourself to other people who seem more successful than you. But this doesn't help anyone—and it certainly won't help you achieve your goals.

Take the time to identify what makes you unique and focus on those strengths instead. You'll be surprised at how much more motivated and confident you’ll feel when you stop worrying about what someone else has done or how good they are at something.
