As the founder of a software firm, I’ve certainly had my fair share of valuable lessons over the last 4 years. In this article, I’ll be sharing the top eight things I’ve learned that have helped me run my company and create successful products, in no particular order:
1. View Failure as a Stepping Stone: It’s natural to be concerned about failure, but it’s important to acknowledge it as a byproduct of success. I’ve learned to understand that with every mistake I make or obstacle I encounter, I am growing and becoming a better version of myself.?
2. Delegate Effectively: The key to success in business is knowing how to delegate tasks to the right team members—the ones that have the right toolset and experience to complete the job. This way, I am able to focus on what I’m best at while my team excels in their areas of strength.?
3. Accept Change: Change is inevitable. By knowing that the market and customer profiles are always changing and quickly adapting to those changes, I can stay ahead of the curve and stay competitive in my field.
4. Surround Yourself with the Right People: Finding the right set of people to assemble your team is essential. Seek out colleagues and partners who have different, complementary skills than your own. Knowing that you have the right team in place increases your confidence.?
5. Embrace Risk: Starting a business is always a risk. As a founder, it’s important to remain open-minded and take necessary risks when they are presented. By being brave, putting yourself out there, and taking calculated risks, entrepreneurial opportunities can be met and acted upon, leading to a more successful venture.

6. Invest in Your Team: Building a strong team is essential for any venture, but especially for a software development firm. With technology changing almost daily, innovation is key to staying ahead of the competition. Investing in the right people and resources and devoting the necessary time to training and growth, will help you create a winning team.
7. Focus on Results: It’s important to stay laser-focused on the goal. Quality and quantity of results should be measured and focused on, no matter how small the task. Doing this will help you prioritize relevant work and make your team as efficient as possible.
8. Focus on Your Customers: Your customers’ needs should be your central priority. As a founder, it's your job to figure out what they need, come up with solutions, and use strategies to give them the best experience possible.
The journey, as well as the lessons and experiences, are still ongoing. Comment on your thoughts or lessons that will provide me and the audience with valuable insights into what has helped you get to where you are today.
