8 types of people in Corona times

What do you do when you are not working as a doctor in the weekend? Write down what you experience, tough things, but also to keep some humor alive, lighter things. Humor is important. With all due respect to all people going through these tough times, healthy or sick, I wrote the following to reflect on the craziness in a different way. Please take it light, you may recognize yourselves or someone you have come across.

The human psyche and behavior are very interesting and in times of need we can express our inner feelings in different ways.

I observed 8 types of people in these Corona times. Think I missed some types, add them in the comments!

“The anxiety kicking in”

It can be quite overwhelming to hear all information about COVID-19. Especially when you are an elderly person or person with a certain health condition, it might be very scary. When you have to stay at home with nothing else to do, thoughts can take strange twists and the anxiety about COVID-19 can kick in. It can take a toll on mental health, which can result in not only anxious feelings, or depressive thoughts, but also not being able to sleep. We laugh a lot at people who are hoarders in these times, but think about it, these people might just be very scared! So let’s help each other to understand the current situation.

“Let's throw all anger and frustration on social media”

When there is a virus that seems not to be controlled, one can feel powerless. Feeling powerless can give a lot of frustration. Because you want to do something, but what can you do? This can make angry. Angry at the situation, but also angry at the decision makers. Then they might be angry at any news about this awful virus that is not only ruining their lives, but it gives the feeling that there is nothing being done to protect people. So let’s throw all on social media, so all enjoy this frustration and anger directed often at nobody in particular!

“Little nervous, but staying strong”

Then there are people who are a little nervous, this slight tingling within your body, but there might be a sense of responsibility. We should stay strong! I have seen these people also taking up a lot of initiatives to help others, mobilize the society to follow the hygiene rules and indeed keeping themselves strong.

“Shut off social media and the news”

When there is an information overload, what do you do? One option is to just stop the information by shutting off social media and other channels that deliver you news on this virus. This is perhaps a way that can work quite well to keep doing your work, keep things in balance for yourself. But reality is reality, what is happening in the world is happening.

“The relaxed people”

With a cool attitude these people approach the world, they are relaxed no matter what happens in the world. What is happening inside them, you may wonder? How do they stay so relaxed? As long as it is adding positive vibes to our surroundings, let them be relaxed. We also need such people, perhaps more than ever!

“The it is just like a flu - little bit rebel”

For some people everything is just a little bit like the flu, so they like to rebel a bit. But secretly they also take their measures. These people like to brag about how many people every year die from the normal flu and love to compare COVID-19 in every possible way to these numbers. Their most popular way of response is a question related to the normal flu. Yes, that is how to spot them.

“Let's go completely against the advice”

These are people who think they are bigger than any virus. People who are looking forward to getting sick any time and survive this as a hero. What they forget is that their survival is just a side effect. Once you carry a virus you can transmit it. What if you transmit it to someone who might not survive? Wait… Does a person really want to be that selfish?

“People who still live under a stone”

“What? Keeping distance? Washing hands? No openly and loudly coughing?” Yes, these people still exist. Ignorant of what is happening or perhaps information has really just not reached them. But taking it more seriously, these people perhaps cannot read or do not understand the language of the country they are living in. It might make angry at first, why these people are still not understanding that we need to follow the hygiene advice and physical distancing resulting from the spread of COVID-19. But let’s keep helping these people to be freed from their stone. So they can join the rest of society in taking the right measures.

Last but not least, not really a type of people, but perhaps they are. The heroes these days in many ways and forms who work very hard to make different things work in our countries in challenging times with a virus that is not that easy to be tamed. Incredible projects have been started, not all change in society has been bad until now. Let all these types of people work together the coming time.

Stay safe and healthy,
