8 Tips for Managing Post-Covid Anxiety
?
After a year of uncertainty, numerous lockdowns and closures, it's natural that people are feeling out of sorts. Many people's mental health has taken a decline over the past 12 months. Now that places are beginning to open up and people are returning to their daily pre-lockdown routines, anxiety and depression are common.
?
Are you afraid of going out, does anxiety kick in at the thought of returning to work, or going about life the way you used to? Whether it's through fear of catching Covid or just a general feeling of anxiety or even agoraphobia, you are not alone.
?
In this post, I will go through 8 tips to help you readjust and eliminate those feelings of anxiety.
?
?
1.?????Take it one day at a time. Don't push yourself too hard. Take small steps to make you feel comfortable. This could be a short walk around the block, a visit to a supermarket in the evening or visiting friends outdoors. Avoid crowds. If you are already feeling anxious, a crowd of people is not going to make things any better.
?
2.?????Keep a routine. A good routine sets the expectations and eliminates any unnecessary stress induced by having to rush or not know what you will be doing. Make time for things you enjoy doing or would look forward to but may have avoided during the covid scare.
?
3.?????Talk about it! Share with friends why it's difficult for you to go outside so they can understand where you are coming from and offer their support as well as acting as a sounding board.
?
4.?????Exercise! You may feel better after a walk or workout. Endorphins are released during a workout which helps you to feel better.

5.??????Practice breathing. Breathing techniques such as 7-11 breathing and 6-6 breathing can help to calm you.
?
6.??????Learn to manage your expectations. You may not be able to do everything that you would like or planned for, so make sure you are realistic when setting goals and making a schedule.
?
7.?????Consider hypnotherapy. Hypnotherapy is a very valuable tool in the battle against fears and anxiety. By working with a qualified hypnotherapist, you can learn practical skills to help you manage any anxieties that arise.
?
8.?????Get help. If you are struggling and finding these emotions, fears or thoughts unbearable, then please seek help from a doctor who can go through a range of treatment options with you.
?
?
The most important thing is to remember you are not alone. There are many people dealing with the same thoughts and feelings; there is no shame in it. Speaking to people will show you that you are not alone; you will probably be surprised that just starting a conversation about it will allow others to open up about their own experiences.
