8 Tips For Job Seekers In The Corona World

Corona has affected the world economy, impacting jobs globally. The worst hit are the students graduating this year. The graduating class of 2020 in almost every country of the world is facing a hostile job market with dried up opportunities, retracted job offers, slashing of salaries, and an economic environment which is worse than the 2008 financial crisis. Many students I am interacting with, are dealing with extreme anxiety over the uncertainty that lies ahead. It is a forgone conclusion that it will take some time for the reality to unravel and the economy to stabilise before it takes off. What can the young, talented, deserving and capable job seekers do in the meantime? While it is easier said than done, and it is always tougher for the person caught in the situation, here are 8 tips on how you can deal with this ambiguous and volatile situation.

1) Don't take it personally - This is not about you, it's about the situation. Don't get into self doubt, don't be tough on yourself. Integrate Meditation & Yoga in your daily routine. It will keep your mind positive & mood upbeat.

(2) Take what you get - If you get some job that may not have been your 1st choice, doesn't matter - Take it ! Learn on the job, get experience. When the tide turns you can find something else. No job is small.

(3) Sharpen your saw - If you get nothing, use the time to learn new skills. Many free courses are available online. Join free webinars .Thousands of online events, conclaves, courses are happening. Attend as many as you can. Build networks. This will help you in the long term.

(4) Do internships / projects - Do short term projects. Even if you don't get paid for them. You will learn new skills & your time will be well utilised. This experience will count.

(5) Think long term - Face this time with a warrior like attitude & courage. This will shape your character in the long run. What will matter is not this event, but how you faced it with positivity, resilience & grit. This is a temporary phase.

(6) Be grateful - Think of all that is going right for you & stay grateful. It will infuse you with confidence & a can-do mindset. Every night write 3 things you are grateful for in the day. Gratitude is a positive propellor. It will replace fear with hope.See how your life changes. Try it.

(7) Read / Write / Record - Use this time to improve your #Knowledge & #Communication skills. Read a non fiction book every week. Write a blog regularly. Record video & upload. It will sharpen your expression!

(8) Watch out for each other - Stay in touch with your friends. Offer help & seek support. Don't feel shy or ashamed admit how you feel. Share with parents / elders if you sense anything wrong. Life is precious. A job is just one part of it.

Wish you the best. Hang in there. Things will imporve.
