Good morning and TGIF or more importantly — happy Playoff Purple Friday! Hope you're donning the purple and black proudly!
Ravens sweaters and fleece are definitely needed today. It's cold and snowy out there. (I might pull out a purple sweater that I've worn for both Ravens Super Bowl wins. Yes, it's that old.) Mother Nature dumped a few more inches on us overnight with temperatures staying in the teens and low 30s for the next couple days. More snow is expected through the afternoon. WBAL reports we won't see temps rise above 40 degrees until Tuesday.
Ravens playoff tickets cheaper than other games
If you want to head to M&T Bank Stadium for the Saturday game against the Houston Texans and don't have tickets, you're in luck. The frigid temperatures — expected to be in the 20s on game day — have meant more seats on the secondary market. Baltimore Business Journal Reporter Garrett Dvorkin reports that tickets to the team’s first home playoff game since 2020 are listed for far less on Stubhub than what it will cost fans in Detroit, Buffalo and San Francisco to see their teams play in their respective playoff games. Resale tickets were going for as little as $98 on StubHub as of Thursday afternoon. Some fans may be choosing to watch the Ravens game from the comfort of their couches and the warmth of their homes.
Here's what else you need to know to start your Purple Friday.
Study Hotels debuts at Johns Hopkins University
Study Hotels, a chain that favors college campuses, is touting its newest location on Johns Hopkins University's Homewood campus. The Study at Johns Hopkins, which quietly opened late last year, is the fourth hotel from New York-based developer Hospitality 3. The company already runs The Study at Yale in New Haven, Connecticut; The Study at University City in Philadelphia; and The Study at University of Chicago in Chicago. The hotel sits on the corner of 33rd and North Charles streets in Baltimore's Charles Village neighborhood. The hotel features 115 guest rooms and suites and on-site dining at Dear Charles, which is described as a "regionally inspired restaurant." And not surprisingly, the hotel is catering to the scholarly set with leather reading chairs and writing desks.
RSM's Brunk retires, new Baltimore head named
RSM, the tax and consulting firm focused on middle market companies, has named Dominic DuBois as leader of the firm’s Baltimore office. DuBois succeeds Marty Brunk, who has served as the Baltimore office leader since 2005. Brunk is retiring from RSM and will be "embarking on new personal and professional endeavors," the firm said Thursday. “It’s been a rewarding four-decade-long career, including serving as RSM’s Baltimore office leader, and a privilege to contribute to the remarkable growth of the firm,” Brunk said in a statement. “I am confident that Dominic’s leadership, market knowledge and deep understanding of our clients will elevate RSM to new heights.” DuBois joined RSM in 1997 and has led the Baltimore assurance practice since 2014.

Tessemae's sale can move forward
A federal judge approved the proposed sale of Tessemae's to a New Jersey consumer package goods company Thursday , removing the final hurdle between the two sides to finalize the multimillion-dollar deal. The Baltimore salad dressing business, currently going through Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings, received approval to sell to Panos Brands for $4.5 million through the Maryland bankruptcy court. The Rochelle, New Jersey-based Panos has five business days to complete its acquisition after the judge’s approval. BBJ Reporter Morgan Simpson, who attended the court hearing, reported that Demian Costa, Tessemae’s chief strategy officer according to Tessemae’s lawyer, appeared online for the meeting, but the lawyer spoke on his behalf
Duane Morris LLP signs new lease in Harbor Point
Duane Morris LLP has new digs. The law firm is moving its Baltimore office from Harbor East to Harbor Point, becoming the latest company to move to the waterfront development. The Philadelphia-based firm has signed a lease for nearly 10,000 square feet to move its offices from the former Legg Mason tower at 100 International Drive to Wills Wharf, according to Armada Hoffler (NYSE: AHH), one of the developers behind Harbor Point. The move represents another downsizing for the firm, which announced plans in early 2019 to move into 14,000 square feet in Harbor East from its longtime offices at 111 S. Calvert St. downtown, where it had leased 17,000 square feet.
