8 Subscriptions a minimalist can do without.

?Have you ever signed up for a free streaming service trial only to find out you had to pay for months after the trial ended? According to a poll conducted by Bankrate among 2,497 persons in the United States, 51% of those who signed up for a membership or service ended up being charged unexpectedly. Do not fall for free memberships, which are a common marketing strategy because they appear to be a harmless way to try out a product or service before committing to paying for it. Nowadays, you can find free trials for everything from underwear to diet pills to make-up to mattresses to razors to CBD oil to gyms to dating apps to educational items to music, and the list continues on and on. If you have been looking for ways to be more frugal and have not touched your subscription regiment, you have been sitting on a gold mine, and we will tell you why.

Hi, and welcome back to HealthWave. Today we'll talk about some subscriptions you should consider parting ways with as a frugal person to save more money. With household bills climbing, it is time to cut back on those unnecessary subscriptions.

#1. Video Streaming Subscriptions.

In 2022, 80% of U.S. households will have subscribed to at least one streaming service, according to Deloitte's digital media trends survey. Those who purchased the product held a median of five paid streaming video subscriptions. While we appreciate the want to consume as much media as possible, it is necessary to establish basic rules. Here is some guidance on how to deal with the abundance of streaming options: To begin, the primary five video streaming subscription services—Disney+, HBO Max, Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime—each cost approximately $6–$13 per month, in addition to applicable taxes. This range varies based on the pricing plan that you choose. Cutting any of these subscriptions would save you $72 a year at the absolute minimum. In addition, if a new season of your favorite show has been released, you may consider subscribing to the streaming service to watch it. You can stop paying for the service anytime and start paying again when a new season becomes available.

#2. Music Services.

Among the many things you can buy for ten dollars, a subscription to a music streaming service that gives you access to fifty million songs is one of the best values. But is it an excellent plan to subscribe to music? This trend toward corporations offering music subscription services is not surprising. This strategy is used to hook customers and keep them as lifelong buyers. Companies can collect from you without making any additional sales efforts. While this method of making regular payments for music from the likes of Spotify and Apple has its advantages, the fact that the payments are automatically deducted without prompting makes it risky. Thus, the purchase process, which was formerly deliberate, gradually becomes automatic. You have no power over your money if you do not know where your money is going. If you want more control over your finances, canceling your subscription is one option, and you can still listen to music using the free version and make do with a few annoying ads.

#3.Gaming services.

In the past, purchasing a video game was much like buying a piece of furniture: you paid a single upfront fee, and that was it. The game was yours, complete, and you never had to pay for it again. But while some games may appear inexpensive at first, they may cost a great deal more. The term "free to play" is misleading when applied to video games. Even though the game's initial download and play are free, developers will still make money off of you through advertisements and in-game purchases. Microtransactions are in-game purchases that give users access to premium features or a competitive edge. Due to the low total cost of most microtransactions, it is easy to let your spending habits spiral out of control. Keep in mind that even a small amount can rapidly grow. Know when you are being asked to pay real money instead of in-game points or currency to avoid any unpleasant surprises. If you are considering using real money to acquire virtual currency, remember to keep the cost of doing so in mind. It is still $100 out of your pocket whether $100 buys you 10 or 10,000 gaming dollars.

#4. Subscription Boxes.

Simply put, a subscription box is a collection of material goods sold to customers and delivered on a set timetable. For instance, for beauty products, customers can expect to get a carefully curated assortment of makeup and skincare items, with each shipment bringing a new element of surprise and delight. That is insane. There is a clear trend for subscription boxes, as they provide consumers with an effortless and shrewd way to explore new categories of goods. Supporters point to the ease and element of surprise, but are monthly subscriptions for apparel and cosmetics a need or just a want? If you are subscribing because you are delighted to get a gift you bought for yourself, then cancel the box and surprise yourself with $150-$300 in your pocket.

#5. Dating Apps.

Even though most of us hate to admit it, online dating is more common and convenient than we think. As time goes on, more and more people find long-term relationships and marriages by meeting people online (and not just on dating sites). But the question is, Do paid dating apps justify the cost? Matches and the ability to match with others on dating apps are typically locked behind a paywall. Popular dating apps like Bumble and Tinder will display a blurred picture with a number to pique your interest. Inquisitiveness frequently results in the purchase of expensive premium services. Online dating services cost anywhere from $9.99 to $39.99 per month. Worse, many dating apps contain in-app purchases, where users can pay a one-time fee for access to a limited number of features, similar to the subscription model. When you include the potential expense of going on dates with your search costs, you can spend over $100 for each successful match. If you can, do away with dating app subscription services, avoid in-app purchases, use the free version mode of the app, or better still, use the ''free version'' good old mode of meeting people at social events.

#6. Gyms and Fitness

You have finally made up your mind to start working out more. It's great, but where do you even begin? The initial step for many is to sign up for a membership at the nearby fitness center. Some people stick with it and get tremendous results, while others give up after a few weeks and waste months (or even years) of membership fees. When you are just starting out with an exercise routine, a gym might be a daunting place to visit. Newbies to many gyms are often left to fend for themselves. This can make you more vulnerable to harm and disorient you. In addition, doing the same activity at the same gym every day might grow boring soon. Lastly, the financial investment is substantial. If you plan on using your gym membership sparingly, the $1148 annual membership cost is a lot to shell out. Please know that we are NOT advising against signing up for a gym membership. Do it if it inspires you, piques your interest, and gets put to good use. But if you are new to fitness, consider checking Mutsoli Muscles by Roy Mutsoli for a beginner's guide and fitness best practices.

#7. Meal Kits.

Envision having everything you need for a delicious meal delivered to your door, already taken care of. Your meal kit will arrive in the mail with all the fresh ingredients you need, from the main course meat to the aromatic spices and crisp veggies that bring the dish to life. As a frugal person, however, I would like to provide a different perspective: my time spent trying out food delivery services could have been more pleasant, relaxing, and satisfying. At the same time, it still needs to be more pricey even with a discount. For instance, let us use Hello Fresh to determine how much each meal will cost. The "Classic Plan," serves three meals daily and costs $129 per week for a family of four on the website. Using simple algebra, you can determine that each meal will cost you $10.75. When put in perspective, that is a mind-boggling sum of money. Dinner for a family of four costs at least $35, and you still have to do all the cooking. In preparing the food, you must also clear the table, wash the dishes, and sort the recyclables!

#8. Magazines and Newspapers.

It is not a popular opinion, but the best way to improve the quality of the news is for loyal news consumers to take a good, hard look at their local newspaper and cancel their subscriptions. A year's subscription to The New York Times (or your local paper) can be anywhere from $480 to $1,000. You can save more than $500 a year by switching to a digital-only membership, or you can watch tv for news or read on the internet for free and save $1000 altogether. Feel free to reach out to support if you'd like to end your membership. As an incentive to stay, you will likely be offered a discounted rate for a limited time.

Folks, that is all for today. It is important to keep in mind that everyone has different priorities. A meal delivery service is unnecessary, yet a gym membership is essential for the gym rat. The news junkie might miss newspapers more than the music streaming service Spotify. Pick the option that best suits your needs, but remember that nothing can replace financial stability. See you at the next one!?
