Have you been contemplating the idea of moving to Canada to study but unsure where to begin??

As an international student, I, Yazmin, have undergone this overwhelming process firsthand. While pursuing education abroad can significantly enrich your professional prospects, planning the move can be daunting.?

Allow me to guide you through 8 crucial steps to help you effectively organize your journey to study in Canada.

Step 1:?Define Your Goals.?

Defining your objectives is paramount when considering studying abroad. Set short and long-term goals. This way, you can measure it more efficiently. Ask yourself the following questions to discover your purpose:

  • What motivates you to pursue this opportunity?
  • What specific achievements do you wish to attain?
  • How long do you plan to study abroad?
  • What field of study are you passionate about?
  • Will you have support while living abroad? If so, who will be there for you? If not, how will you address the challenges that may arise?

For instance, let me share how I defined my goals for immigrating to Canada:

"I chose to move to Canada to challenge myself, seeking a path different from what was expected of me. It required leaving behind my comfort zone and everything I had built in Mexico, but I yearned for a fresh start in life.

My short-term objective was to learn English from level one to at least pre-academic four. Subsequently, I aspired to enroll in a college, an accomplishment that filled me with joy; my third goal is to excel in a postgraduate program and secure a full-time position in the field of Digital Marketing. Ultimately, I aim to establish a fulfilling life in Canada, actively contributing to the community and thriving in the competitive job market. My education plan spans four years, encompassing English, Marketing, Sales, and Digital Marketing studies.?Although I initially self-financed my journey, I was pleasantly surprised to receive unexpected help from some friends."

Step 2:?Choose the Ideal City or Region.?

Contemplate your preferences when selecting a city or region in Canada. Do you envision yourself in a serene environment, a small town with a close-knit community, a bustling cosmopolitan city, or a place rich in cultural diversity?

For example, Toronto's cosmopolitan vibes perfectly aligned with my aspirations, -an opportunity to immerse myself in different cultures, languages, traditions, and customs. Hence, it made the perfect city for me.

Step 3:?Find a Suitable School.

My primary goal was to improve my English language skills, so I focused on finding reputable English schools. I recommend utilizing Findcourse.com , a secure website offering various English courses to suit your budget. My search on the findcourse website led me to the Centre of English Studies Toronto , an excellent choice. Throughout the online course enrollment process, a Findcourse agent provided invaluable assistance, guiding me every step of the way and ensuring that I had all the necessary documentation for my journey to Canada. This way, I was taking firm steps toward my goal.

Step 4:?Find the immigration requirements.

Research Immigration Requirements Understanding the immigration requirements for your country when entering Canada is critical. Requirements vary depending on your country of origin. For instance, for my planned duration of English study, I only needed my passport and an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA). However, others might require a visa. To find specific information, visit the Government of Canada website.

Step 5:?Get an advisory from an educational advisor or agency.

Seek Advisory from an Educational Advisor or Agency Embarking on this journey can be overwhelming, so don't hesitate to seek guidance from an educational advisor or agency. Their expertise can make the process significantly smoother. I highly recommend these two agencies that proved invaluable during my journey:

  • We Study Canada: A local agency that offers comprehensive information to international students, helping them find the most suitable schools in Canada based on their preferences for program, price, admissions, and location. The process is easy, fast, and painless, with personalized and friendly interactions. They work with students from all around the world. Step 6: Search for school reviews.

Once you've identified your preferred school, delve into student reviews to gain valuable insights into their experiences. Discover whether the school met their expectations, learn about any challenges they faced, and assess how the school responded to address their concerns. These reviews will empower you to make an informed decision about your future educational institution.

Step 7:?Get Immigration Advisory from a Certified Consultant.?

While international students can handle the immigration process independently, seeking advice from a certified immigration consultant is highly advisable. Each case is unique, and a professional consultant can guide you through the process, ensuring that everything is handled efficiently and correctly. If you are an international student looking for a trustworthy immigrational consultant, mention it in the comment section, and I will share a few options.

Step 8: Plan a Budget.?

Once you've mapped out your journey, construct a comprehensive budget. It will vary depending on what you will study, the city you plan to stay in, the immigration process you are taking, and your lifestyle.

Consider these expenses when doing your budget:

  • Airfare
  • Study program expenses,?
  • Immigration fees
  • Health insurance
  • Housing
  • Transportation
  • Food
  • Cell phone plans
  • Internet services
