8 Steps To Getting Your Staff Ready For 2021!

Right, 2020 for many of us has been a write-off for our staff and our businesses with the COVID-19 Pandemic driving many to close and in some cases for staff to be furloughed for the majority of the year!
But, we’ve got to be careful that we don’t fall into the slippery slop of allowing COVID to become a common excuse that filters down from the top of the business to the staff as well!
That’s right, I can hear many screaming at me as I type this and they rightfully feel aggrieved that COVID has not been an excuse but a completely legitimate reason for why their business has underperformed, struggled or even closed in 2020. Here’s the thing, you’re absolutely right! If you’re not careful, rather than looking for that pivot which can transform your fortunes or the key decisions your business needs to make to become viable for the next year and more or seeing the hidden opportunities that could present themselves for your business, you’ll be legitimising the negative spiral because there’s a valid reason for these things to not work.
Yes, COVID has hit all businesses in some ways, but as a business owner its imperative, no its your duty to those you employ to ask, “Right…now what?”
Don’t let COVID be your legitimate excuse or reason to not try in 2021 and don’t let this mentality infiltrate your teams or working family.
COVID can become a cancer, where the negativity of it and the excuses it enables actually kill off your business rather than the Pandemic itself!
So, now more than ever is the important time to plan, strategise and set crazy ambitious goals for 2021 and filter these down to your people!
I don’t care what business your in, what products or services you offer or where your customers are or whether Brexit could also have effects – we all have a common denominator that drives every business regardless of circumstance.
No business in the history of mankind has ever operated without a human element and 2021 for your business WILL rely on how well you can structure and engage your Human Assets for success.
Businesses will thrive through this pandemic, they will survive and breakeven, some will survive but be drastically different and altered and some will just survive by the skin of their teeth. Why can’t this be you and your business! If you and your team can get through this, then you can look to grow as we come through the other end.
So here are some tips that we’re using in our business for 2021:
STEP 1: Set crazy ambitious goals for 2021!
STEP 2: Set big targets in the next quarter that help drive the business towards those lofty goals for 2021.
STEP 3: Share them with your staff.
STEP 4: If your staff are not daunted by the aspirations, your goals are too small and go back to step 1.
STEP 5: Remind the team of the goals and targets at every team meeting so these become drilled in.
STEP 6: Outlaw Negativity and Focus ONLY on Positivity!
STEP 7: Ensure Staff complete their own goals daily for success!
STEP 8: Regularly review and schedule an end of Quarter review!

That’s right, we set our goals and crazy ambitions in October 2020 and through applying this method we have focused, pivoted successfully and more than 10x’d our position over this time.
Does this mean we’re where we want to be? No!
However, if we would have stuck to the easy excuse of COVID, our business wouldn’t have survived October, its that stark and simple. We didn’t just survive; we grew at our fastest rate ever!
Look, your teams r the working family in your business is and always will be the keys to success and failure. By the way if you’re the owner or a one-man-band that firmly includes you too!
This could never be more emphasised now in this pandemic than ever before! If you allow the COVID excuse cancer to spread, the people you need to drive the business forward simply will not believe it is even possible!
So, set your crazy goals that are so big that your people think you have gone mad but inspires them! Create belief and you’ll work out the how you get there along the way. Just set the direction of travel before you start driving!
