There are currently 870 teacher vacancies in the state of Mississippi, and it’s likely that not all openings have been reported to the Mississippi Department of Education (MDE). This highlights the importance of innovative strategies to attract and retain high-quality educators. As alarming as the vacancy numbers can be, it’s an opportunity for us to come together to support and listen to our teachers. Districts seeking feedback from educators who are not returning should consider asking: ?In what areas did we excel? ?Where did we fall short? ?What steps can we take to improve? ?How could we have better supported you as a partner in education? The most effective strategy to boost teacher retention is to gather and analyze data from the voices in the field. #schoolworq #schoolleadership #teacherjobs

She spoke about our work to recruit Student Success coaches to curb the teacher shortage in New York City. "A lot of mentors come in knowing they want to go into education, and we give them experience in the classroom and training to put them on that path. As education professionals, we all want what's best for our students. But a critical hurdle remains with third-grade reading proficiency. The article highlights a decline in Indiana's third-grade reading pass rates, dropping nearly 10% in a decade. This isn't an isolated case. The rise of "social promotion" - passing students to the next grade regardless of reading ability - is linked to these declining scores. Studies in states like Florida and Alabama show the opposite: strong reading improvement with stricter standards. Ending social promotion may seem harsh, but the benefits are clear. Early intervention and targeted support for struggling readers can have a profound impact on their future success.
