8 SMART THINGS TO DO ONCE YOU LOSE YOUR JOB

8 SMART THINGS TO DO ONCE YOU LOSE YOUR JOB

It seems like a normal workday. You got up, got ready and headed to work. Everything seemed normal to you until your boss asked you to meet in the conference room. The moment you entered in the conference room you saw HR was sitting there waiting for you with a folder on the desk. If you have ever been into this situation in past you instantly get shiver in your spine, and you know that today is your last day at work.

Now what do you do? Here are some tips which will help you to get back on your feet.

WHY ME? Stop blaming yourself. This question might be hovering around your head all day and night. Was I a victim of the office politics? Was it my performance issue? Was I made guinea pig during restructuring? OR was it just my bad luck? Let it go, forget, forgive and move on. You can either get BITTER or get BETTER. Its completely your choice.

GET A MAKEOVER Get a nice haircut, go to a spa, or get a nice relaxing massage. You probably still have your benefits and you paid for it, why not make it useful and treat yourself special.

TALK TO A FAMILY MEMBER OR/AND A GOOD FRIEND Don't hold this pain to yourself. Share with someone who cares about you. This will help you get some moral support from them. Pain decreases and happiness increases by sharing with others.

CHANGE YOUR MOOD Listen to some uplifting music. Music is the best therapy to change the mood. Hit the Gym and get some blood flowing. Bring in some positivism in your life. You can't change the situation but you can certainly change the way you look at the situation by changing your mood.

REACH OUT TO YOUR NETWORK Along with your job search it's a wise thing to re-connect with some of your network (former colleagues, former bosses, good friends in the industry, etc). They can be a huge help to get you back on your feet. Get a free LinkedIn Premium account for first month and set a calendar reminder to cancel after 30 days (because you probably going to get the job within that time period).

MAKE A GAME PLAN Set a time table for your job search. Wake up early, go to Gym (Even though you don't feel like it). Go out and get a fresh air, it will help to bring some life back in you. Keep aside 2 hours (maximum) daily from 8 am to 10 am for your job search and from 10 am onward for your phone or in person interviews.

LEARN FROM YOUR MISTAKES Don't make the same mistake again. Next time pay more attention to the changing situations around you. Reflect and find out what possibly caused your exit from your previous job. Learn from that and be more smarter next time.

BUILD AN EXTRA SOURCE OF INCOME "Never put all your eggs in one basket. Especially, if that basket is owned by someone else." You know the feeling when your primary source of income came crashing down. You know the stress and anxiety you and your family went through. May be its time to create some extra source of income along with your primary source of income. This might be your wake up call. Don't let it just pass by. Have that cushion or something to fall back on if everything falls apart. Get Smart and have a multiple source of income.

Above all, keep patience and don't get frustrated. Good things always takes time to come. Many times you feel like you are at end of the road when you loose a job. But trust me its exactly the beginning of your new journey. Its not always your loss, its actually your gain. If they don't deserve you then they shouldn't have you. There is someone out there who will value you, your skills, and your experience. Make a decision that you will never go through this situation again in your life. Always, keep your options open.
