8 Science-Backed Tips to Improve Your Focus

Are you finding it hard to stay focused? You’re not alone. With the constant barrage of distractions from our devices and the ever-increasing demands on our attention, it’s no wonder that our ability to focus is dwindling.

But there is hope! By making some simple changes to your environment and your routine, you can improve your focus and get back on track. Here are science-backed tips to improve your focus:

Get a good night's sleep:

7-8 hours of sleep will do more for your focus than any drug.

If you don’t get enough sleep, you will feel sleepy. And being sleepy = lack of focus

Make it a priority to get a full night’s sleep.

Meditate:

Meditation is a great way to improve your focus.

It allows you to focus on yourself and your surroundings simultaneously.

Do 2x meditation sessions a day, 10 minutes each:?

  • After you wake up
  • Before you go to bed

Plan your day:

It is essential to plan your activities every day and increase productivity.

  • Set a goal
  • Make a to-do list
  • Break up bigger tasks into smaller chunks

Remember, everything that starts with a plan and follows the plan ends well.

Eliminate distractions:

Distractions can destroy focus.

Lack of focus = Lack of progress

Keep your primary focus on completing what you need to do

  • Silence notifications
  • Save social media for after deep work- Keep your phone hidden from sight

Prioritize your tasks:

Not all tasks are equal.

What you work on is more important than how you work.

  • Make a list of all your tasks
  • Identify what’s important
  • Assess the value of your tasks
  • Get help from technology

Focus on one thing at a time:

Multitasking doesn’t help you achieve more. It slows you down.

Research shows that about 98% of people are less productive when multitasking as they are not focusing on a single task.

Focus on one thing at a time, and you’ll get 10x returns.

Train your brain:

Your brain is a mental muscle.

Training your brain to stay focused is a matter of practice.

Over time, if you train your brain, you can improve its ability to focus and think about what you need to accomplish.

Take small breaks:

Taking regular small breaks can help your brain to focus.

After every 2 hours, give yourself a 20-minute break.

  • Take a nap
  • Go on a walk
  • Have a snack

You will come back with a more focused mind.
