8 Sales Tips in 8 Minutes

I was recently invited to be the guest speaker at the Newquay Business Club for their expert@eight session, which is an expert sharing some tips and advice in 8 minutes. I turned the eight tips into this week's episode (#306) of the Better Presentations More Sales podcast (available on all the popular podcast apps and platforms) and I thought I would share them on here as well.

So here they are:

  1. Speak to Current Customers - phone don’t email, check how they are using your product or service, talk about their plans, find other things they need from you
  2. Respond Quickly - to email, phone, message enquiries. First responder has a 78% chance of gaining the business
  3. Ask and Listen - ask questions that will provide clues which in turn can create sales opportunities - but listen carefully to the answers and clarify what you think you’ve heard. Don’t ask: ‘How’s Business?’ or ‘Are you Busy?’ ask instead ‘What is the biggest challenge you face over the next six months?’
  4. Be the Authority - in your sector, the person or company who knows the sector, is leading the way - create and support this with marketing type activity - blogs, podcast appearances, articles, videos, speaking
  5. Make it easy to Buy - check what it is like to be your potential customer, is your offering easy to understand, how does someone buy it, where are the barriers that put off potential customers
  6. Surprise & Delight - its the small, personal touches that often have the biggest impact - a follow up call, a hand written note, a small considered gift…
  7. Everyone is in Sales - you don’t expect everyone in your organisation to be a great sales person but all the interactions they have with customers / potential customers will influence buying decisions
  8. Be Proactive - do things that can help create sales opportunities / make sales happen - go networking, share your expertise, talk to customers, most of the above are driven by being proactive
