Social Media has arrived at an inflection point where it is pushing the comfort zone of marketing leaders. They are left with no option but to be more amenable to transformation in the way people consume information and engage with brands.?
Social Media Marketing has some fundamental advantages over traditional media channels and marketing leaders should feel happy that this transition is happening:
- Social media allows brands to engage and interact with their consumers?and keep a close tab on the market’s pulse
- Social media gives the ability to build powerful and well engaged community of promoters and influencers online, which is not possible through traditional channels
- Unlike traditional marketing, social media marketing is not just one-way B2C communication but a multi-way interaction - B2C, C2B and C2C. On social media, brands get immediate feedback and their promoters can spread positive word of mouth.
- Social media marketing is data driven, therefore its results are measurable. Brands can quantify the engagement of their marketing messages in terms of clicks, comments, likes, web pages visited?and back-links . In traditional media, its more of a guess work to know how many people heard your TV/radio spots or read your magazine ad
- Traditional marketing does not give the option to run highly targeted campaigns. On the other hand, social media offers that option using built-in advertising tools with specific targeting features including age, gender, location, preferences, search patterns and many other mix and match parameters
- Social media marketing is much more cost effective and can promote a brand in real-time as compared to the more expensive and time-consuming process of traditional marketing
- Social media gives the option to make edits and changes to marketing messages instantly, which is not possible in traditional media channels
- Most importantly, the ROI on social media can be absolutely disproportionate in case a brand is able to create a ‘viral’ marketing message!
