8 reasons to be happy that you are more laid back and easy going.

It’s easy to get the impression that unless we have charm, charisma, outgoing attributes, and gregarious social skills we are destined to struggle in a world of assertive type A personalities.

The distinction goes back to 1976 when two prominent cardiologists studied patients in their waiting rooms to determine how their behavior impacted heart disease and high blood pressure.

Turns out type A personalities sat on the edge of their seats and jumped up frequently.? The result, the chairs wore “unevenly”.

The mellower people were more relaxed, at ease and incredibly laid back.? They categorized these people as type B personalities.?

They discovered that their “more relaxed” patients managed stress better and worked at a methodical pace.? Their “more excitable” patients had less anxiety, and higher levels of imagination and creativity.

The more excitable patients also had a propensity to embrace perfection and struggled with "admitting weakness".?

In addition, the more relaxed patients were perceived to be easier to get along with and less critical.

My point is that both personality types have their strengths and weaknesses.? Being more “low key” isn’t a death sentence for success.? In fact, it could be a tremendous advantage.

If you’re a “low key” individual that has been led to believe your chances for success are limited, I have incredible news.???

“Love is essential; gregariousness is optional”.

Here are 8 reasons to be happy that you are more laid back:

Patient

Some people are lazy.? However, low key people are often accused of being lazy when in fact they’re simply reserved.? The low-key people I know have patience and they embrace the journey.? Just because their adrenal isn’t pumping 24 hours a day, doesn’t mean they won’t win the race.? Remember the hair and tortoise.?

Methodical

Many of the low-key people I know are methodical.? They have a plan, and they execute their vision at a steady pace that enables them to enjoy life along the way.? They stop and smell the roses.? They have a cadence that doesn’t lead to burnout and stress.?

Regard

The research shows that low key people have high regard for their work. They just work at a different pace.? They believe quality work is the product of time and patience, and they pay attention to detail.???

Satisfied

Low key personalities spend less time worrying about the future.? I know many successful mellow souls that relish the present moment and find satisfaction in their current situation.? It’s easier to be present when we aren’t in a hurry climbing the corporate ladder or “hustling” to get ahead.? Learning to be satisfied is a powerful attribute.?

“Solitude is a catalyst for innovation”.

Health

I go at a frantic pace, but I make health a top priority.? As a result, I manage stress well and take time every day to focus on wellness.? Many type A personalities don’t.? They charge ahead often at the expense of better health.? Type B personalities know how to relax, and they take life in stride.? We can learn a lot from their ability to “go with the flow”.? The health benefits are well documented.

Quality

It’s easy to get overly competitive when you’re forging ahead at the speed of light.? Quality friendships require time and patience, and easy-going individuals normally take the time to cultivate strong connections.? It’s hard for strong personality types to slow down and enjoy being present.? However, quality relationships demand patience and being available.??

Imaginative

Low key people are often highly creative because they take the time to dream.? High achievers dream as well but often fall into predictable patterns that can prevent spontaneity.? Listen, routine is essential for success and sometimes it’s mundane.? However, being able to venture outside the box is useful when it comes to innovation and creativity.???

Collaborative

Low key people often make better team members.?? They understand how to listen and respect everyone’s unique approach to getting work done.? When we focus on the process, we get less preoccupied with “pressing ahead”.? We focus on quality work and collaborating in the spirit of success.??

“One genuine new relationship is worth a fistful of business cards”.??

Sum it up.
