1. Poor Sleeping Habits

Sleep is often the first thing we sacrifice when starting a new business. I used to believe that working late into the night and waking up early was the only way to succeed. But over time, the lack of proper rest began to take its toll. I noticed my decision-making suffered, my creativity dwindled, and I couldn’t focus as well.

Lesson: Prioritizing sleep doesn’t mean you’re lazy. It means you’re investing in better brain function. Now, I aim for 7-8 hours of sleep every night, and I can see the positive impact it has on my productivity and decision-making.

2. Too Much Screen Time

As someone who works in digital marketing, the screen is my workspace. From managing social media accounts to running digital campaigns, I was glued to my laptop or phone for hours on end. I thought this was the only way to get ahead, but it led to headaches, eye strain, and a sense of mental fatigue that wouldn’t go away.

Lesson: Set boundaries with screen time. I began scheduling breaks away from the screen and invested in blue light glasses to reduce strain. Small steps can make a big difference in how you feel mentally and physically.

3. Barely Moving Throughout the Day

As entrepreneurs, we often get so caught up in our work that we forget about simple things like sunlight. Early in my journey, I spent so much time indoors in front of a screen, I barely noticed that I wasn’t getting enough fresh air or natural light.

Lesson: Natural light and fresh air are essential for a healthy mind. I now make an effort to work near a window or go outside for a short break. It not only improves my mood but also boosts my mental clarity.

5. Consuming Too Much Negative News

I realized that constantly absorbing negative news started affecting my mindset, making me feel anxious and distracted.

6. Social Isolation

Building a business can be lonely. In the early stages, I spent most of my time working in isolation, thinking that doing it all by myself would be the fastest route to success. But it wasn’t long before I started feeling disconnected and overwhelmed.

Lesson: Networking and connecting with others are crucial for personal and professional growth. I now make an effort to attend industry events, meet with mentors, and collaborate with other professionals. Sharing ideas and gaining support from others helps keep me grounded and energized.

7. Blasting Headphones on Full Volume

I love music, and often, it can be the perfect companion while working. But I used to blast my headphones at full volume to block out distractions. This not only hurt my ears but also added to the tension in my body, making it harder to focus in the long run.

Lesson: Listening to music is great, but moderation is key. Now, I keep the volume at a reasonable level and make sure to have moments of silence to give my brain a break. This balance has improved my focus and productivity.

8. Consuming Too Much Sugar

In the hustle of running a business, I found myself reaching for sugary snacks to keep me going. But the sugar highs were followed by crashes that left me feeling exhausted and unmotivated.
