Surface and David Rockwell pay homage to an American icon: the Diner
@ Ventura Centrale, Via Ferrante Aporti 15 – MM 2-3 Centrale. April 17-22, 10 am-8pm.
Leading design magazine Surface presents The Diner, a celebration and exploration of American design and food, in collaboration with renowned architect David Rockwell. Together, they invite for a journey across the US through the interiors of the archetypal roadside restaurants. The entrance is inspired by the iconic travel trailer offering coffee and pies while milkshakes are served in an East Coast–style luncheonette. A room paying tribute to Midwest diners proposes grilled cheese sandwiches. The tour conclude in a laid-back West Coast lounge concept.
Bompass & Parr escape the design buzz to explore “The Joys of Bees”

The association of hotels and restaurants Relais & Chateaux teamed with Bompass & Parr to present a magic installation which invites visitors to explore the flavor, the texture and the aroma of some of the world most exclusive varieties of honey. A peaceful oasis in the heart of buzzy Brera Design District where to reflect on the need to protect bioversity and, in particular, the endangered life of bees which play a key role for the ecosystem.
Creative Chef invites for a taste of the city of tomorrow

What will we eat in 2070 years? What will it look like? Are you willing to give it a try? Jasper Udink ten Cate, a.k.a. Creative Chef, welcomes the visitors at his table which is transformed into a giant futuristic food experience. The dining table which is transformed in a miniature forest and maquette of a city of tomorrow. Architectural thinking, ceramics, food and our future come together. Literally, food for thought.
MI-ORTO: Eataly creates an urban orchard open to the city

Eataly Milano Smeraldo and Liveinslums NGO present a urban agriculture installation in collaboration with local associations and groups promoting participative projects. In front of the food-store in piazza XXV aprile, mobile orchards and public furniture sets invite to discover the potentiality of metropolitan-farming. A program of workshops will engage residents and visitors as well.
Make a D(w)ish: 28 Posti restaurant teases foodies with a “capsule collection” menu and design set

Marco Ambrosino, chef of 28 Posti restaurant, and the designer Odo Fioravanti joined forces to create a design capsule collection and a gourmet menu during design week. It all started from the Italian word piatto which means both dish as the physical object and the course. From here, the creative duo conceived design-objects specifically designed to enjoy a limited edition menu available both at lunch and dinner.
Elit Vodka from the House Stoli toasts the Russian Avant-Garde at Wallpaper* Handmade

Inspired by the Russian Avant-Garde and the work of artist El Lissitzky, the ELIT PROUN BAR by leading architects Carmody Groarke for Elit Vodka at the Wallpaper* Handmade exhibition features a series of dramatic, architonic totems that reimagines a dynamic, trail blazing era and what a bar can be. In Russian, PROUN is the acronym for “project for the affirmation of the new”. A key concept reflected in the design of elit Vodka’s bottle, which nods to the era of the iconic Russian avant-garde and a movement that informed the origins of contemporary design. Expect some very special, bespoke cocktails at the installation.
Alcova: a former panettone factory becomes a creative hub for international designers
Via Popoli Uniti 11-13, MM1 Pasteur. April 17-22, 11 am – 7 pm.
The ALCOVA design exhibition curated by Joseph Grima and Valentina Ciuffi opens for the first time to the public the doors of one of Milan’s most historic panettone factories in the rising NoLodistrict. The complex’s vast spaces which used to produce Italy most loved Christmas cake and is now partly taken over by plants and vegetation will host new projects by designers, institutions, galleries and companies.
Santa Margherita Wines explores convivial rituals with a “Surreal Table”
@ Palazzo Durini, Via Durini 24 – MM1 San Babila. April 17-22.
Wine group Santa Margherita invited 5 design duos to reinterpret the “rituals of the table” with different styles and materials. Andrea Mancuso and Emilia Serra of Analogia Project created animal-shaped Murano glassware inspired by Greek mythology which hint at the ancient sacrality of wine. Ceramic cake-stands, plates and containers emerge in the “table-path” by Marco Zavagno ed Enrica Cavarzan of Zaven. On show also works by Eligo, Flatwig and Studio Lido design duos.
