8 Golden Rules to Attract a Recruiter’s Attention on LinkedIn

LinkedIn has become the go-to platform for job seekers and recruiters in today's job market. This platform offers fantastic networking opportunities and finding dream jobs and candidates.

However, with so many people seeking recruiters’ attention on the platform, it can be tricky to stand out.

We’ve used our experience in tech recruitment to put together 8 Golden Rules for you to follow so you can get noticed by recruiters and land your dream tech job!

1. Optimise your profile for searches.

When it comes to getting noticed by LinkedIn recruiters, this is essential.

a. Use relevant keywords in your headline, summary and experience sections. This can help you show up in search results for your desired roles.

b. Complete your entire profile. Highlight the skills specific to the roles you are after.

c. Change your status to ‘open to work’?as they come up on notifications. Bonus points if you regularly post updates on your profile about your work on achievements, as this can keep you on recruiters’ radars.

2. Highlight your achievements.

Recruiters are interested in your experience and the impact you’ve made in previous roles. Add specific details and use numbers and statistics to back them up.

For example, if your coding abilities improved the efficiency of a project, try to quantify the time saved or the cost reduction. Specific numbers showcase your value to an employer and will set you apart from other candidates. Have a look at this example:

3. Use a professional photo.

First impressions matter. Your picture is one of the first things recruiters will see, so it’s important that you make it count. Avoid using selfies, party photos or informal photos that can make you look unprofessional.

If finding a professional photographer to take a headshot is proving difficult, ask a friend to take a clear, professional-looking photo with good lighting and a simple background. You can also use?tools ?and?websites ?online to remove or edit the background of your image to tidy it up a bit.

Remember, your profile picture reflects you as a person, so choose one that aligns with what you want to portray to recruiters and employers.

4. Make your cover background professional and eye-catching.

When someone visits your LinkedIn profile, your profile picture and background photo are the first noticeable things. So, it’s important to make it look professional and visually appealing. A great cover photo can showcase your personality and make a great first impression on recruiters.

Choose a simple image that relates to your profession. It could be your workplace, the city where you work or a simple graphic that summarises your skills.

5. Ask for recommendations.

This is a great way to show your skills and build credibility on LinkedIn. These third-party perspectives on your work can give recruiters valuable insights into your abilities.

Don’t be afraid to specify skills or achievements you would like to be highlighted when requesting a recommendation. And, of course, don’t forget to thank them for their time and effort once they do!

Remember: quality over quantity. Aim for a few well-written and tailored recommendations over many generic ones.

6. Engage with Content.

By engaging with content, you can increase your visibility and catch the attention of recruiters looking for candidates like you. Keep an eye on your feed and stay active on it by:

a. Participating?in relevant LinkedIn groups – this can help you connect with link-minded professionals and showcase your expertise.

b. Engage with posts related to the tech industry – this shows you are active, interested and up to date.

A good consultant will support you through the entire process, so you can spend more time on things like interview prep and CV tailoring instead of painstakingly scrolling through hundreds of job links.

8. Be proactive.

a. Update your profile regularly – add new experiences and skills as you progress through your career.

b. Reach out to people who have viewed your profile – this shows you’re interested in networking and building relationships within your industry.
