8 Email Marketing Tricks To Increase Your B2B Sales in 2020

8 Email Marketing Tricks To Increase Your B2B Sales in 2020

There are literally hundreds of tips and tricks that can be mentioned, but here are some that I can classify as the most important ones.

  1. Cold emails are your best friend, provided you understand the concept of twisted value exchange. Everyone likes to receive communication via email, and the ROI on email is by far the best, and it beats pretty much every other medium, combined, hands down. So, do not listen to naysayers that cold emails don’t work.
  2. You can sell anything from $1 to $10,000 on a single email. Yes, I repeat, you can sell a product worth $10,000 on a single email. I’ve sold some financial newsletters in that price range on a single email alone. And that too, when I didn’t own the product. As an affiliate marketer. So, once again, don’t let the naysayers tell you otherwise.
  3. Newsletters are making a big comeback. Technically they never went away, but of late, most marketers believe email sequences are the way to go. Yes, automated sequences have their place in the marketing ecosystem, but nothing beats a fixed frequency newsletter. Whether it be daily, weekly, or monthly, but a newsletter has tremendous value, because it’s the only thing that retains your readers’ interest in your voice. If you retain their interest in your voice, you can sell them anything - Read Point #2 again, in case you missed it.
  4. Always keep at least two copies of your main list, with two different ESPs. Use both ESPs in rotation, which helps you learn about how your list performs and if you can find a way to beat the performance by switching ESPs or for redundancy I know its a little bit of extra work, but there will be times, when your ESP might shut down your account or even temporarily suspend it, arbitrarily. I've had this issue with GetResponse several times, when they just block access, suggesting a part of our list has not engaged with our list for a very long time and we should clean it. This is not to say they are wrong. They're perfectly within their right to do so. I'm simply suggesting that keeping a back-up will help you not getting caught with your pants down.
  5. Occasionally, do a spam score test on your email. If you're not a large organization, you may not have the budget or the time to do this every time. Having a thorough understanding of how some content can trigger junk placement, always helps. However, it is a good idea to occasionally test your email using services like mail-tester.
  6. Never forget your pre-headers. Especially in the mobile world, pre-headers give you a double advantage. You could communicate an entire story with the subject line, followed by the pre-header if you word it right.
  7. Write your emails like you're talking to a friend. No matter what business you're in, if your emails will follow a conversational tone, you will always have a reader interested in what you have to say, and pay you money for it. If you're not going to talk in that tone with a friend, do not write it in an email.
  8. Read every email twice before you hit the send button. This goes further to point #7, but the 2nd time you read your email, read it out loud. It will tell you if you're doing good or need to change.

These are some of my main ideas that you should be aware of.

The most important ones to remember and take home, however, are #2 and #3.

You can sell almost anything with a single email, and newsletters are your long term workhorse, so do not ignore them.
